AREAS OF EVALUATION and TIME: Time allotted to complete the practical exam is 3 hours and 15 minutes. Failure to complete within the given time may result in failure. Exam time 3 hours and 15 minutes. 1. General Trade Practices – Evaluated concurrently 2. A Full Manicure (no polish) - 30 minutes 3. Gel or Acrylic nails with tips on 3 fingers and Gel or Acrylic nails with forms on 3 fingers and Full Polish (Red). 1 hour and 30 minutes 4. A Full Pedicure and French polish on 1 foot only - 1 hour and 15 minutes Candidates must demonstrate the following: 1. General Trade Practices:
Candidates will demonstrate proper hygienic and sanitation procedures throughout the entire service.
2. A Full Manicure:
Removal of nail polish, filing and beveling procedures, cuticle work/push/trim, massage of finger tips to elbow, three or more cosmetic massage movements.

Candidates will use the thumb, index and middle fingers from each hand, to demonstrate the following:

and Full Polish (Red):

proper preparation of natural nail; an extension of the natural nail at least 1/4 of an inch; there is to be no visible free edge on the nails that are to be used; length of finished gel nail must compliment the length of the other nails; proper fit and gluing of tip (sidewall to sidewall); blending of tip and no glue residue on the nail or under the nail; must create uniform smile lines, arch and ‘c-curve’ finished enhancements must be smooth, free of air bubbles, uniform and natural in appearance, No press on tips and no french white or coloured tips are allowed
c) Application of application of base, red polish and top coat 4. Full Pedicure and French Polish on 1 foot:
Candidates will demonstrate filing/beveling techniques, cuticle work/push/trim, callous removal, foot & leg scrub, removal of scrub, three or more massage movements from toe to knee and will finish nails with a French style and top coat.
All candidates must be dressed in clean and professional spa attire / school uniform with any logos covered (no jewelry, no perfume, appropriate spa footwear). Models must come with polish on hands and feet (RED polish on 1 hand minimum).
SUPPLIES and EQUIPMENT: Candidates are required to appear at the practical examination with their own professional equipment and supplies. Clean and sanitized equipment MUST be used; failure to do so will result in automatic fail. All candidates must display equipment on a covered countertop. Borrowing is strictly prohibited and will result in an automatic failure of the candidate(s) exam. Points will be deducted if candidates fail to provide themselves with appropriate equipment and supplies.
