A ten-m em ber B ritish com m ercial expedition was guided by Jonathan T inker and Mark M iller and included five other Britons and three A m ericans. T heir plan was to attem pt a new route from the eastern side o f the m ountain via R akhiot Peak (7070 m eters) and then to follow B u h l’s 1953 route. They set up Base C am p at 3400 m eters in the Rupal m eadow s and C am ps I and II at 4600 and 5200 m eters. A high point o f 5600 m eters en route to R akhiot Peak was reached on Septem ber 4. T hen, huge snow falls in the next days forced them to abandon the attem pt. Once the expedition was over, M iller went on to Nepal from K arachi but died in the plane crash in the hills south o f K athm andu on Septem ber 28. X
