Rhodes Commits to Marshall Fishers High School’s Nathaniel Rhodes Signs National Letter of Intent to Marshall University ATHLETICS
Rhodes Commits to Thundering Herd Baseball Senior Right Handed Pitcher Nathaniel Rhodes has decided to continue his baseball career next year at Marshall University. The Thundering Herd is an NCAA Division I program that competes in Conference USA under the direction of Coach Jeff Waggoner. Coach Waggoner is in his eighth season with the Herd and has sent 26 players on to play professional baseball, including 12 in the last three seasons. Nathaniel, son of Michelle Cloud and Tony Rhodes, is a 3-year letterman and All-HCC pitcher for the Tigers. Rhodes becomes the first Tiger to leave Fishers High School with a guaranteed Division 1 roster spot and the third Tiger overall to play Division 1 Baseball. Through 58 career innings on the mound, Rhodes is 4-2 with 1 save and a 3.26 ERA. As a junior, Rhodes set the single season record for strikeouts per game averaging 7.8 strikeouts every 7 innings. He also currently holds the career record for lowest opponent’s batting average with a minimum of 200 batters faced (.233) and is second on the career list in lowest WHIP (1.34) and most strikeouts per game (7.24). This past summer Rhodes consistently threw his fastball at 87 mph and touched 89 mph on several occasions. Fishers Tigers Coach Matthew Cherry spoke very highly of Nathaniel, “Nathaniel is one of the hardest workers that we have coached. His success on the field is directly related to his hard work off the field. As a sophomore, Nathaniel sat at 81 mph off the mound, and in about 12 months, he added 6-8 mph to his fastball. His leadership and work ethic has become the example for all of our current and future pitchers. I am confident that he is not even close to reaching his potential, and I look forward to watching his continued development this spring and next year as he heads to Marshall.” Congratulations Nathaniel and family.
