National Federation of State High School Association rules will govern play with the following exceptions and highlights: All participants must show their Boise State Identification Card prior to each contest. Eligibility status is the responsibility of each individual participant and the Team Manager. 1.1 The game shall be played by two teams of six players. A minimum of four players is necessary to begin play. 1.2 Two men and two women must be on the court when playing with four. When playing with five, 3 men and 2 women or 3 women and 2 men are acceptable. 1.3 A 5-minute grace period from the scheduled starting time will be allowed before a forfeit is declared. 1.4 Rule interpretations (not judgment calls) are the only areas of discussion between a Team Manager and Officials. 2.1 A ten minute time limit has been established for each game. When the ten minute time limit is up, the team with the most players will be declared the winner. 2.2 The object of the game is to eliminate all opposing players by getting them “out.” 2.3 The game begins by placing 8 dodgeballs along the centerline. Players then take a position behind their starting line. Following a signal by the official, teams may approach the centerline to retrieve the balls. This signal officially starts the contest. 3.1 All players must remain on their side of the centerline at the start of the game. 3.2 During the match at any time, each team can advance to the opponent’s side of the court but cannot pass the designated line. 3.3 During play, all players must remain inside the nets. Players may leave the boundaries only to retrieve a stray ball. The net side of the court will be played inbounds but the racquetball side of the court will be out of bounds. 4.1 The first team to legally eliminate all opposing players will be declared the winner. 4.2 At the start of the match a player must bring the ball(s) behind the starting line before they attempt to get someone out. 4.3 If the referee declares “stalling” each player with a ball must throw the ball at an opponent or to the opponent’s side within 10 seconds or that player will be out of the game. 4.4 A player will be declared out if: If any part of their body crosses the opponent’s boundary line. If they are hit anywhere by the ball before it bounces (head shots are illegal). If the opponent catches their thrown ball before it bounces. If they do not return to the starting line at the beginning of the match after picking up a ball. 4.5 Once a player is out, he or she is to stay in jail until the contest is over or a teammate catches a ball thrown by an opponent. The first player sent to jail is the first player released from jail. 4.6 A ball that hits a player and bounces up, can only be caught by the player hit to eliminate the thrower. 4.7 A ball deflected by another ball and then caught by another teammate does not eliminate the thrower. 5.1 Rules will be enforced primarily by the “honor system.” Players will be expected to rule whether or not a hit was legal or whether they were legally eliminated. 5.2 An official will supervise all contests. The official’s responsibility will be to rule on any situation in which teams cannot agree.
