THE SERIES: This will be the first meeting between the schools this century. Records prior to 2000 are not immediately available. LAST TIME OUT: In NJCU’s last game on March 11 in Auburndale, FL, NJCU rallied to knock off Swarthmore, 8-3. NJCU trailed 3-0 through six innings before scoring four runs in the seventh to take the lead and four more runs in the eighth. The biggest hit was a three-run homer by Andrew Niech in the seventh; Michael Martucci had a two-time eighth-inning double. FLORIDA RECAP: In a rain-abbreviated trip, NJCU went 3-0 in Florida, and did not allow more than three runs in any game as the Knights received solid starts from Wendell Rodriguez, Zack Markle and Tom Trela. YOU CALL THIS SPRING?: NJCU will finally see action after nine weatherforced off days. Unplayable field conditions have postponed the past three Gothic Knights baseball games as NJCU was scheduled to take on Old Westbury on Tuesday and defending Landmark Conference champion Drew University. A makeup date has not been determined between NJCU and Drew. The Gothic Knights last game in Florida against Franklin & Marshall was rained out. WEN-ROD TO THE HILL: Wendell Rodriguez is expected to make his fifth start in 11 games today. He is 1-1 with two no decisions. He owns an 11-13 record and as NJCU’s ace has typically faced the best teams on the schedule. With a win today, he will tie the all-time career program record for wins (12), held by four pitchers—new Hallof-Famer Jack Nagurka (1983, 1985-86), Robbie Robinson (1986-88), B.J. Fearon (1994-96) and Rob Motacki (2004-06).

ABOUT THE OPPOSITION ABOUT OLD WESTBURY: The Panthers enter today’s game with a record of 3-6 and losers of four straight. LAST TIME OUT: On Sunday, Old Westbury dropped both games of a non-conference doubleheader against Eastern Connecticut. In game one, the Panthers were edged by the Warriors in eight innings, 4-3 and in the nightcap, they lost 4-2 in seven. NJCU also has lost to EastConn, a perennial national power, this season. ANGELINO HONORED: Junior designated hitter John Angelino was named to the Skyline Conference Weekly Honor Roll on March 18. Angelino leads the team in hitting with a .391 batting average, a .609 slugging percentage and has racked up a team-high six runs and six stolen bases. ***THE NCAA, ECAC, NEW JERSEY ATHLETIC CONFERENCE AND NEW JERSEY CITY UNIVERSITY PROMOTE GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP BY STUDENTATHLETES, COACHES, STAFF AND SPECTATORS.
