NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS TOURNAMENT NOTES THIS WEEK For the second straight season, the Oregon women’s golf team returns to the NCAA Championships. A year after recording the best finish in program history (T5) on their home course, the Ducks head to Sugar Grove, Ill., this week to make the program’s 13th all-time appearance in the Big Dance. FORMAT Beginning on Friday, May 19, all 24 teams in the field are guaranteed three rounds of stroke play. After Sunday’s third round, the top 15 teams will advance to the final round of stroke play on Monday. Following Monday’s round, the top eight remaining teams will move on to the match play portion of the Championships. The quarterfinal and semifinal matches will be played on Tuesday, with the championship match set to be played on Wednesday.
DUCKS SHINE AT LUBBOCK NCAA REGIONAL The Ducks put together their best tournament of the year at their 10th straight NCAA Regional in Lubbock, Texas, finishing 3rd out of 18 teams at +3 (294-289-284--867) to advance to the NCAA Championships for the second straight year. Entering the final day of the 54-hole regional in a tie for third place and with a nine-hole cushion above the cut line, the Ducks took no chances of falling out of the top six with a tremendous start to the round. All five Ducks recorded at least one birdie in the first four holes of the day, and no Duck was worse than 1-over par going through the turn. After a group of bogies in the middle of the back nine, Oregon finished strong and punched its ticket to the NCAA Championships with its best 18-hole total of the week. All four counting scores for the Ducks on Wednesday came in at even-par or better.
HOW TO FOLLOW The NCAA Women’s Golf Championships will once again be broadcast live on the Golf Channel, beginning with Monday’s final round of stroke play and carrying through the entirety of the match-play portion. A recap from each of the Ducks’ rounds will be posted daily on GoDucks.com, and live updates will be provided during each round on Twitter via @OregonWGolf.
Senior Marcella Pranovia led the Ducks in a tie for ninth overall at 1-under par, highlighted by a career-low-tying 67 in the second round, while fellow senior Cathleen Santoso was right behind in 12th at even-par. Kelsey Ulep put together a solid week at 2-over, and Kathleen Scavo rounded out the counting scores at 5 above par. The Ducks now head to Sugar Grove, Ill., for the NCAA Championships, starting on Friday.
THE FIELD Oregon is one of 24 teams competing in the NCAA Championships, and are joined by Arizona State, Furman, Texas, Texas Tech and Kent State out of the Lubbock Regional. Also advancing out of the other three NCAA Regionals were Stanford, Duke, Pepperdine, USC, California, Miami (Fla.), Alabama, Northwesterm Michigan State, Baylor, Clemson, North Carolina, Florida, South Carolina, Florida State, Ohio State, Purdue and Michigan. There are also 12 individuals in the field.

Programs are honored with the award for posting a multiyear APR in the top 10 percent nationally within their sport. Ria Scott’s program received the Public Recognition Award for the second year in a row; UO women’s golf also received the honor for its academic performance in every year between 2005 and 2011. DUCKS STRIVING TO #BETHESTANDARD Head coach Ria Scott introduced a new motto to the 2017 team prior to the start of spring, #BeTheStandard. The slogan was created in hopes of inspiring the Ducks to set and be the standard in everything they do, whether it’s on the golf course, in the classroom or in the community.
