NCAA Compliance 101 You Are A Booster If:  You are a member of any organization that promotes Charlotte Athletic programs (e.g., 49er Club, Grand Slam Club, Eureka Club)  You have made a financial contribution to the Charlotte Athletics Department or any of its booster organizations  You have ever assisted in the recruitment of prospects for Charlotte  You have provided benefits (e.g., summer jobs or occasional meals) to enrolled student-athletes  You have ever, in any way, promoted the athletics program at Charlotte Once you are identified as a booster, you will always be considered a booster. You never lose that identity. Who Is A Prospective Student-Athlete? A prospect is any student who has entered the ninth grade. An individual remains a prospective student-athlete until one of the following occurs:  The individual officially registers and enrolls in a minimum full-time program of studies and attends classes in any term during Charlotte’s regular academic year  The individual participates in a regular squad practice or competition at Charlotte that occurs before the beginning of the academic term  The individual officially registers and enrolls and attends classes during the summer prior to initial enrollment and receives institutional athletics aid Recruiting And Contact Rules For Prospective Student-Athletes Only coaches and athletic department staff members are permitted to be involved in the recruitment of prospects. All representatives of the university who are not members of the athletic department staff are prohibited from contacting a prospect by telephone, in person, or in writing for the purpose of encouraging his/her enrollment at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Employment Of Student-Athletes Student-athletes may be employed by representatives of athletics interests, provided the student-athlete is compensated only for work actually performed and compensation is at a rate commensurate with the going rate in that locality for similar services. Any employment must be reported to the Compliance Office. Occasional Meals An occasional home meal from a representative of athletics interests is permissible if:  The meal is provided in an individual’s home, on campus or at a facility that is regularly used for home competition. The meal may be catered, however, meals at restaurants are strictly prohibited  The meal is restricted to infrequent and special occasions A representative of athletics interests may provide reasonable local transportation to a student-athlete to attend the meal ONLY IF the meal is at the home of that representative. Prospects, girlfriends, boyfriends, spouses or their children CANNOT attend an occasional meal. All meals must be approved by the Compliance Office. Do Not Provide:  Entertainment for student-athletes (e.g., cash, use of home or other valuable items)  Use of an automobile or transportation of any type  Free or reduced cost housing for any length of time  A loan for a student-athlete or his/her relatives  Employment for relatives or friends as a result of their relationship to a student-athlete  Payment for or use of a student-athlete’s picture or name to advertise the sale of a product  Gifts, including free or reduced cost services, including meals, drinks, clothing, laundry, haircuts, and legal fees  Awards or monetary gifts to a student-athlete for his/her athletic performance  Tickets to an athletic, institutional or community event If you have knowledge of any improprieties, either intentional or unintentional, please contact the Athletic Department immediately so that we may take corrective action.
