INVESTING IN KC NEIGHBORHOOD SEWER REHABILITATION TOWN FORK CREEK BASIN CONSTRUCTION CREWS AT WORK: NOVEMBER 2016 - AUGUST 2018 The Town Fork Creek Basin Sewer Rehabilitation Project will restore 100,000 linear feet of aging sewer main, 120 manholes, and 455 service laterals. When complete, the collection system in your neighborhood will be restored to like-new conditions, with a life expectancy of up to 80 years of service. This project helps protect our community’s environment by reducing the amount of stormwater entering our sewer system, which will lessen the frequency of sewer overflows and basement backups in the area.

Rehabilitation of sewer lines to: • Restore the aging sewer system • Repair deteriorating sewers to like-new condition • Reduce the risk and frequency of sewer overflows
• Reduce the amount of excess water getting into the sewer system • Meet regulatory requirements of Kansas City’s federally-mandated Consent Decree
WHAT’S THE TIMELINE? Construction will be ongoing from November 2016 through August 2018
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT? We appreciate your patience and support as we work to complete this important community project. Trenchless technology will be used whenever possible to reduce the need for open trench excavation. Customers will be notified in advance of when disruptions will occur, which may include: • Temporary street closures • Temporary sewer service disruption
WHO’S DOING THE WORK? KC Water will be assisted by Havens Construction Company, Insituform Technologies, Ace Pipe Cleaning, G&G Mechanical and Blue Nile Contractors.
WHAT’S THE CONTRACT AMOUNT? Construction and design professional services have been approved by the Kansas City Council and contracted in the amount of $13,000,000. The EPA requires KC Water to complete the project by December 31, 2018.
WHAT’S THE “CONSENT DECREE”? In 2010, KC Water entered into a Consent Decree with the United States Environmental Protection Agency to reduce the volume and frequency of overflows from the City’s sewer system. Kansas City’s Overflow Control Program is a 25-year plan to address this challenge. The Town Fork Creek Basin Rehabilitation Project is once piece of the Overflow Control Program and is required by the Consent Decree to be completed by December 31, 2018.
