Session Description: During this session, participants will hear success stories of Louisiana State Teachers of the Year and learn how they used their role to positively impact the teaching profession. Participants will reflect on and explore how to tap into their own leadership potential. Additionally, details will be shared regarding the 2018 Teacher and Principal of the Year process. Session Goal: After hearing how others are elevating the teaching profession, participants will create a vision and next steps for expanding their own leadership role in the teaching and learning community.

Lo u i si a n a ’s Te a c h e r a n d P r i n c ip a l o f t h e Ye a r P r o g r a m s • The Louisiana Department of Education recognizes that great teachers and school leaders are critical to student success. • Annually, the Department, in partnership with Dream Teachers and the Louisiana Association of Principals, honors the state’s most exceptional educators through the Teacher and Principal of the Year programs. • The Louisiana Teacher and Principal of the Year awards programs recognize and honor outstanding teachers and leaders who are making exceptional gains with students, pushing them to achieve at the highest levels in the state. • Their commitment to student success exemplifies Louisiana’s teaching profession. • These programs are one way the teaching profession is being elevated in Louisiana.
