Issue 4: 21st October 2015

Message from the Headteacher Our Community Streets event took place on Friday and was a great success. Over 100 children from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 walked, scooted or cycled to school. They arrived early to school so that they could share a lovely breakfast together. Children in Years 5 and 6 then participated in a bike workshop with Professor Bike, who then spent some time adjusting handle bars and seats, pumping tyres and generally ensuring that all the bikes were safe. Professor Bike then rode the smoothie bike, which is a stationary bike fitted with a special blender. When the children filled the blender with fruits and Professor Bike pedalled hard we were rewarded with a delicious healthy smoothie! Some of our Year 6 children are currently away on a three day residential school trip in Marwell Activity Centre. I wish them all well and look forward to hearing about all the fun and exciting experiences they had when they return to school on Thursday. Please remember that the school is closed on Friday 23rd October for teacher training and that next week is our half term holiday break. I hope you all have a peaceful and restful break and look forward to seeing you all return to school on Monday 2nd November. Mrs Meena Walia

Beat the Street We have been contacted by the council to say our school is doing very well in the Beat the Street competition. Currently however, only one fifth of players are parents. Each family should have received a parent pack titled ‘parent/carer your invitation to play’ containing a card and instructions on how to play the game. Please register your card and select our school as your team. When you take your children to tap the Beat Boxes, you should also tap your own card and add points to your team total which could see our school shoot up the leader boards. The most successful Beat the Street teams in previous projects are those that have had high parent participation!
