As this will be the final newsletter of this term, I would like to take the opportunity to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I have been particularly proud of the children in the last few weeks. The behaviour of the children throughout the school is excellent and has made the pleasure of Christmas in an infant school all the more enjoyable. Our Christmas Concerts have been a fabulous success in each year group and children have represented the school in the community exceptionally well. Children have been singing at St. John’s Church and the RSPCA Christmas Fair at Greenbank High School I would like to take this opportunity to thank our staff team who given up their own time and put a lot of effort into getting the children ready for all of the performances.

Goodbye 2016 Hello 2017 !!! Exciting things ahead! Thanks to everyone for their support this year with our Read to Succeed Initiative. Remember to keep reading over the Christmas Holidays. Archie, ‘the real reading dog,’ will be back to read with the children again in February!! This term we have also seen success in the use of cursive hand writing. The presentation of children’s work is a real strength throughout the school and the senior leaders have also observed fabulous teaching too. Our partnership with the Junior school goes from strength to strength with joint events including Children in Need, Planting of Poppies for Remembrance Day and Christmas festivities. Farnborough Road Schools are launching a social media ‘app’ in early 2017 to improve home/school communication. Farnborough Road Infant School are joining with the Junior School for this initiative to ease communication for families who have children in each school. The app has been a huge success in other schools and we think parents and extended family members will love it.

Events during the Spring Term include:

Headlice – Together we can fight them! Please check your child’s hair regularly, ideally once a week – a good way to remember this is: ‘ONCE A WEEK, TAKE A PEEK’ follow advice at www.onceaweektakeapeek.com/downloads • It is best to check for head lice using a comb made for the purpose • Comb through the hair when wet, or after applying a conditioner.

 

Where to PEEK - Close to the scalp • Behind the ears • The back of the neck • The top of the head • Under the fringe

What to PEEK for - • Adult lice are 2-4 mm long Immature lice are even smaller • Live lice remain close to the scalp • Nits are dead or empty egg shells - simply remove these by hand or by combing If you find headlice alive this is when you need to use a treatment. Remember check your child’s hair a couple of days after treatment to ensure that all the headlice have been killed. If every child returns to school with clear hair it will be a good start to the new year.
