With Parkinson’s awareness week just having taken place, you may have noticed the increase in coverage on the television. It was also interesting to see how many celebrities supported the awareness week, almost always due to family members having Parkinson’s. These included Gary Lineker, Graham Norton, Harry Styles (from the Boy Band One Direction) and Jane Asher. What I thought was the most striking part of the campaign was the range of posters asking people to “put yourself in my shoes”. For those who use the Internet you may have seen that these sparked a great deal of comment and debate both positive and negative. To me this illustrated just how well the campaign worked. Anything that gets people talking and discussing Parkinson’s and how it affects people differently has got to help raise awareness and have a positive impact..

A Golden Thank You Stuart and Judy would like to thank all members of the Branch for the flowers, cards and messages they received on the occasion of their Golden Wedding Anniversary. They were particularly delighted with the flowers sent by the Branch which were a range of golden hues.

We have a new fundraiser who completed a 9 mile walk for Parkinson’s and to date has raised over £90. Finley hopes to present the total amount raised to the Branch as soon as all is collected and would like half to go to the exercise group and half to research
