CAISTER JUNIOR SCHOOL

I

t’s that busy time of year again! I can hardly believe that it is nearly the end of term! There are so many things still to happen at school: reports, Sports Day, residential trips to Whitwell Hall Camp and Eaton Vale, Pleasurewood Hills, Lion King, to name only a few!!! I have once again enjoyed meeting with parents and pupils, and along with the rest of the staff have worked hard to encourage and welcome parents and carers into school. We hope to see many more of you during the next year!

Year Books

D

on’t forget the fabulous school year books are now on sale for the bargain price of £12 per copy. I’m sure many of you have seen past copies in our reception area, they provide a wonderful visual record of all the children’s activities during 2015/16. Past copies are available at a reduced price. Please contact the school office for an order form.

We are always happy to see parents and will try to address any comments or concerns you may have. I have also included a list of term dates for your information. Term ends on Wednesday, 20th July and pupils return to school on Monday, 5th September. We are also saying goodbye to our Year 6 pupils, who are continuing on their learning journey to High School. We wish them all the very best of luck and hope that they continue to progress as they move on.

Parent Helpers I would like to thank the parent helpers who have given up valuable time to work with us in school. We would love more volunteers in school; dads and grandparents too! So if you have some spare time please let me know and we can involve you in our school!

Friends of Caister Junior The Friends have been very busy helping to raise funds for the school. Since September 2013, they have raised a significant amount of money for our children. This money will help with the school improvements.

Please remember that this group really needs new members for all the good work to continue ~ please help if you can!

SPORTS DAY ~ 15TH JUNE Please could you ensure your child brings an additional water bottle on this day. You are welcome to take photos of your child, but we must respectfully ask that you DO NOT post any photos onto social networking sites etc. In order to safeguard all our pupils, we request that pupils stay with their year group and do not go over to their parents/relatives at any time. Could we also ask each child to wear a tshirt in their house colours? Cavell ~ Yellow; Haylett ~ Green; Martin ~ Blue; Nelson ~ Red

Curriculum Development Don’t forget, for those of you with children in years 3 to 5, you are invited in to school to “Meet & Greet” your child’s new class teacher on Tuesday, 28th June straight after school. Harrisons School wear will also be available on this day for you to place an order or purchase new uniform if you wish to. Harrisons Schoolwear will also be in school on 27h June at 3.20pm for you to place an order or purchase new uniform, if you wish. My Maths Don’t forget all the pupils can access MyMaths throughout the Summer holidays to play maths games and revise lessons for the start of next year!

School Uniform Within our school we promote an atmosphere which encourages effort, enjoyment and a celebration of the achievements of all our pupils. Our concern for these high standards is also reflected in the pride we take in our school uniform and the feeling of belonging it creates. It is our school policy that all children wear school uniform when attending school or when participating in a school organised event outside of normal school hours. I would ask for your support in this by providing your child with the correct uniform. This is also available from www.tesco.com/ues (free delivery on orders over £15). Social Media Networks Never forget that postings, whether they are on a blog or public social media site, can be read by millions. There is no such thing as privacy on the internet. Word spreads quickly. Search engines can turn up posts years after they are created - even after you think you have deleted them - and comments can be forwarded or copied. Inappropriate or inaccurate comments which are damaging to a person’s reputation should be avoided, as they could result in a claim of libel. Your use can be tracked, even if you think you have an anonymous user account.

Recently we had a Lockdown drill for the whole school, as advised by Norfolk County Council. Before half term I did a short assembly to give and explanation as to why we need to have a drill and reassurance for those that may be apprehensive. I explained that the procedure was to stop any panic in the event that the school had to be locked, due to something happening outside in the surrounding area. The examples I gave were; a possible gas leak or a large fallen object – tree, on school grounds. I wanted to keep the process very low key hence the reason for not contacting you all beforehand. As always, rather than airing views on Facebook, I would much prefer you to come in and ask me if you have any questions relating to any queries you have regarding this or any other school matter. and staff’s safety in the forefront of our Thank you for the positive feedback minds at all times hence the reason for we had also. We have the children and formulating a policy and procedure. I would like to take this opportunity to wish staff, pupils and yourselves a very restful holiday with time to recharge the batteries ready for September and to thank you all for your support & hard work during this academic year, it has been much appreciated. Every year is a new adventure & I look forward to seeing you in September 2016! Kind regards,

Coral Brinklow ~ Head Teacher
