Schools/NJTL Committee July 2016, Semi-Annual Meeting Waco, Texas

1. Welcome 2. Roll Call 3. Protocol 4. Committee Guidelines – Schools / NJTL Committee – promotes and supports the growth and development of the USTA Schools program through local CTAs in public and private schools. In addition, this committee promotes the development of the National Junior Tennis and Learning program which upholds the vision of Arthur Ashe by providing yearround free or low-cost tennis and educational opportunities to all youth in Texas. 5. NJTL: a. 2016 Art Contest doubled entry participation from last year although small amount of entries for HS ages. – looking at changing age groups to just elementary, middle and high school age groups. b. Legislative sample letter for chapters c. NJTL Pathway and goal setting for each chapter d. Coordinator Education i. USTA Foundation ACE Educational training – Oct. 7-9 ii. PTR ACE Training e. Newk’s College Showcase – do we want to sponsor an NJTL player to attend? f. Whataburger Scholarships g. Review SWOT from Annual Meeting and goal setting for chapters. h. Kids’ Days – 6 potential sites (Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Austin, Laredo, and Amarillo) 9. Hot Shots a. #s as of July 1st b. The Hot Shots 2.0 Curriculum has been finalized. Hard copies were delivered in late May. c. The Hot Shots Bundles were formally added as a purchase option for our Hot Shots program. i. Best used for large groups, camps, or other organizations ii. Typically, already have a sports foundation established – they either want to enhance their existing tennis program or integrate it into their program

d. A health and wellness movement initiative is in the process of being woven into the Hot Shots program. i. The first 5 sessions will highlight one of our Sportsmanship values and one of our Health/Wellness topics. The last session will be a program overview. ii. Marketing details TBD e. Area of Focus / Target Audience – 6th graders (pre-UIL) i. Presenting the program as a “training camp” before they can try out for their school tennis teams ii. Builds athletic skills and friendships with future teammates 10. Schools a. #s as of July 1st b. Update on adopted schools from Members c. Change in renewal incentives for Organizational Memberships i. 2 dozen foam balls per school  restock initial inventory of 4 dozen foam balls per kit d. Area of Focus / Target Audience – Superintendents, Board Members, etc. i. Highlighting the importance of developing the younger elementary kids that filter into and compete for their middle schools and high schools ii. Strong reliance on volunteers to connect on a personal and local level 11. Kids’ Tennis Club / #TennisClub a. Both of these programs are in “neutral” – USTA National is currently attempting to improve and modify them, so we want to be sure that our efforts match up with theirs. 12. 10U / Approved Facilities
