Computer Gaming—We have once again had a lot of children openly talking about playing on adult computer games at home. Games like Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto contains levels of violence and adult themes that ARE NOT suitable for children which is why they are sold for ages 18+ only. Even more worryingly at least some of the children are playing these games with other “children” they are meeting online; this is exactly how paedophiles target children by pretending to be children themselves. I urge you to think very carefully about what you are allowing your children to do on computers. School Uniform—Please do not allow your children to come to school in non-uniform on a regular basis even in the hot weather. Shorts are fine but they should be plain black or grey and only white or green shirts are acceptable. From September we will start calling parents into school to change any children who turn up in the wrong clothes.

Governor Corner—Maria Wells—Community Governor I have had a very long association with Widden Primary School. It started in 1959 when I started as a pupil; my children were also pupils at Widden. I was a governor in the 1980’s and early 1990’s but I had a break from being a governor because I found myself being too busy as a teacher and head teacher in other schools. I am now a very proud grandma to three children and work for the county council with a role in school improvement. I was delighted when Mr Cooper asked if I would be interested in becoming a governor again. I am a governor because I am interested in making sure that all children are given the best opportunity to be successful; as a governor I can support and challenge the school to provide that opportunity. I am also a governor at Widden because that’s where my roots are.

After School Club—Would you be interested in an After school Club at Widden? It will provide care for your child after school from between 3.15 and 6pm. This could also include Madressa drop off, where necessary. There will be a small cost per child. Snacks will be provided. Indoor and outdoor activities will be arranged, including opportunities for children to complete homework. Please let us know if this would be of interest. National Blogging Award for Mrs Gedge Congratulations to Mrs Gedge who is a part time SEN teacher in the school, has won a very prestigious national award for a blog she writes. She was presented with her award as “ Teacher Blogger of the Year” at a ceremony in London at the weekend Here is her Blog address is: www.notsoordinarydiary.wordpress.com Scholastic Book Fair
