NON-DESTRUCTIVE TESTER #IndustrialRadiographer #InspectionTechnician #NonDestructiveEvaluationTechnician Adding force to a piece of equipment until it breaks certainly helps you to understand its strength - but it’s impractical and expensive, especially when you’re testing pipelines already buried underground. As a Non-Destructive Tester, you use a variety of tests, tools and techniques to determine the integrity of a material or component without causing damage. Are you curious by nature? Do you like finding creative solutions to problems? If this sounds like you, you may want to learn more about becoming a Non-Destructive Tester.

What does this career look like? Non-Destructive Testers perform tests that provide information to ensure underground pipelines, pipes in industrial plants, reinforcing steel in concrete structures and pressure vessels are safe to use and do not have defects or faults. You work closely with equipment operators to locate signs of corrosion, pitting or cracking. You may apply coloured liquids to equipment to highlight hairline cracks, or use advanced technologies, such as ultrasonic tests, radiation detectors, X-rays, strong electromagnetic fields and vibration patterns to look for flaws. You interpret the test results and report back to equipment operators and supervisors recommending repairs, replacements and scheduled maintenance based on your findings. In the pipeline sector, your findings inform the maintenance schedules of pipeline companies.
