NNU Athlete Earns NCAA All-American XC Honors

Ashley Puga finished 19th earning All-American honors in Joplin, Missouri at the NCAA Division II Cross Country National Championships. Puga recorded a time of 21:22.1 on the 6-kilometer course becoming the first NCAA D.II All-American Cross Country athlete in NNU history. XC/TF Mission Statement Northwest Nazarene University’s Cross Country and Track & Field programs are fully committed to an educational pursuit that combines spiritual, academic and athletic development at the highest levels. As a valuable member of the team, each student-athlete is given individual attention and instruction as they pursue excellence in these areas.

Nine Northwest Nazarene University cross country student-athletes were named to the 2007 Great Northwest Athletic Conference cross country all-academic team. For the Crusader women Ashley Puga, a Business Administration major, leads them with a 4.00 GPA. Along with Puga, Ashley Morman earned a 3.97 in Business Administration, Jennifer Young a 3.96 as a Chemistry major, and Miriam Reardon earned a 3.71 majoring in Social Work. Young joins Puga in making their second straight appearance on the academic team. The Crusader men were lead with a 3.83 GPA by Kevin Lambert majoring in Christian Ministries. Joining him are Josh Wageman, 3.94 a Pre-Physical Therapy major, Seth Clark majoring in Secondary Education with a 3.78 GPA, Greg DeSimone, 3.42 GPA, with a Biology major, and Hank Hetrick majoring in Engineering Physics with a 3.34 GPA. To be eligible for the academic team, student-athletes must have a minimum grade point average of 3.20 and be in at least their second year of competition at their university.

Ashley Puga and Kevin Lambert earn GNAC All-Conference Honors Crusaders Ashley Puga and Kevin Lambert both earned GNAC all-conference honors as they finished third and fifth and the Northwest Nazarene University women's team finished third at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday October 20th at West Park in Nampa. Puga, who finished the 6-kilometer course in 21:48.67, paced the Crusaders as they posted their highest finish to date in the GNAC championship race. Shannon DeBoer (21st,23:13.49) finished second for the NNU women, followed by Jaclyn Puga (24th, 23:27.24), Elisa Decker (30th, 23:39.25), Kendra Loeber (35th, 23:57.57), Jamie Sundvall (45th, 24:19.20), Ashley Rendahl (53rd, 24:26.33), Miriam Reardon (72nd, 25:19.52), Jen Young (85th, 27:17.14) and Ashley Morman (87th, 27:58.87). Lambert clocked a time of 25:26.29 over the 8-kilometer course as the NNU men's team finished seventh overall. Also competing for the Crusaders were Seth Clark (23rd, 26:30.27), Zach Lane (40th, 27:03.34), Kyle Gray (50th, 27:35.95), Hank Hetrick (53rd, 27:43.98), Josh Wageman (58th, 27:51.58), Matt Stark (59th, 27:52.57), Greg DeSimmone (74th, 29:16.07) and Caleb Reynolds (78th, 30:53.42).
