NCAA Semifinal Round

NCAA Division II Championship Game | Children’s Mercy Park, Kansas City, Kan.

• Northeastern State scored on the third play from scrimmage last season and took an early 6-0 lead on the Bearcats on Oct. 14, 2016, in Maryville, Mo. Northwest would score the next 21 points before the RiverHawks got on the board again in the second quarter. Northwest’s defense held NSU to just 3-of-13 on third downs. Kyle Zimmerman threw for five touchdowns to four different receivers. Emanuel Jones found the endzone twice on the ground. • Last weekend, Central Oklahoma became the first team since Lindenwood back on Oct. 22, 2016, to score in the first quarter on the Bearcats. That’s a span of 12 games. That was also the last time an opponent converted at least 41 percent of its third-down opportunities against the Bearcats, going 7-of-17 (.412). After that game, Northwest has allowed just 41 third-down conversions on 193 attempts (.212). • Since 2005, Northwest has recorded 11 games with 30 or more first downs gained. No opponent has accomplished that feat since Pittsburg State had 32 first downs back on Oct. 29, 2005, in the Fall Classic at Arrowhead. • The Northwest defense has not allowed an individual runner to surpass 100 yards in the last 36 games. That came in the 2014 NCAA playoff game against Minnesota Duluth (Drew Bauer 131). In fact, the last MIAA runner to go over 100 yards on the Bearcats was Missouri Southern’s Chris Barnwell (104) back on Oct. 26, 2013, a span of 54 games. • Northwest has set a program record with 36 straight victories. The previous mark of 24 games was accomplished from Sept. 18, 1999 - Nov. 11, 2000. Grand Valley holds the NCAA Division II record for consecutive wins at 40 (8/27/05 12/1/07).
