OpeNING KICKOFF
Just a “Hop”, Skip & Jump Away Junior Jeffrey Hopson found the back of the net for the first time this season, and just the second time in his career, Saturday in the Wildcats’ season opener versus Colgate. The Chesterfield, Missouri native has started 27 consecutive games for the ‘Cats. Between The Pipes Senior Zak Allen made his fifth career start on Saturday, marking the first time since four starts in 2013 that he was between the Pipes for the ‘Cats. Despite giving up an early first-half goal, Allen finished with seven saves, including a pair of diving stops late in the game to help Northwestern come away with a draw. Welcome Back: Northwestern returns 82 percent of its goal scoring (18-of-22) from last season and is led by senior tri-captain Joey Calistri. The forward enters the season climbing towards the top of the NU record books, ranking fourth in program history in goals (27) and sixth in points (62). Matt Eliason (2007-10) is the career leader in both goals (33) and points (82). Scouting the Redhawks: Seattle split its first two games of the season last weekend, defeating UC Davis, 6-0, behind four goals from Hamza Haddadi before falling to Gonzaga on Sunday, 1-0. Haddadi was named the WAC Offensive Player of the Week, scoring three of his four goals on penalty kicks alone. He is currently tied for second in the nation after one week. Seattle was picked as the WAC Preseason favorite with seven starters and 10 letterwinners returning from last season’s squad that finished 13-2-5. Scouting the Bulldogs: Gonzaga also split its first two games of the season, falling to Washington, 1-0, before its win over Seattle on Sunday. Junior midfielder Jakob Granlund put three shots on goal in the win over the Redhawks and scored the game-winner in the 52nd minute on an assist Jake Kempf. The Bulldogs went just 5-12-1 last season, but return eight starters and 16 letterwinners for head coach Einar Thorarinsson.

CHICAGO – In its first regular-season competition of 2015, Northwestern battled it out to a 1-1 double-overtime draw against Colgate on Saturday night at Loyola Soccer Park.
Chicago’s Big Ten Team finally caught a break with eight minutes left in the first frame. Junior Jeffrey Hopson collected the ball off a throwin from sophomore John Moderwell and beat three Raider defenders as he worked his way to goalmouth and found the upper right corner for the equalizer.
