or the last twelve years, LISD has honored those employees who exemplified a positive attitude in their workplace and a desire to excel in their department or on their campus. Two more members are inducted into the prestigious LISD Apple Corps. Deena Galloway is starting her first year as the Timber Creek Elementary PE Teacher. She moved to P.E. from her position of 3rd grade math teacher for nineteen years. Deena grew up in Fort Stockton and graduated from Sam Houston State University with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in kineisology. She has between 50 to 60 students in one PE class and her main focus is safety for everyone. She loves being a PE teacher because PE Teachers are celebrities in the eyes of her students. They arrive to class giving high fives and can’t wait to find out what their activity will be each day. Deena and Jeff have been married 24 years and they have two sons, Austin and Cole who are both LHS alumni. Austin graduated from UT Tyler in December 2015 with a major in business and Cole attended Tyler Junior College as a walkon football player and was on the offensive line for two years. Deena marvels at the determination and dedication of Barbara Waters, who proceded her as the campus PE teacher for 31 years. Deena is also grateful that she has always worked with such good people on campus. Beginning at Timber Creek as a student teacher, she continued to develop friendships with those she calls lifelong friends validating her belief that “Iron sharpens iron”. JoAn Delafosse is in her 12th year of teaching at LISD. She began her career as a second grade teacher for 8 years and this is her 4th year of teaching PreKindergarten. She graduated High

Her job is to help students bridge the gap between home and school. Most of the students come to Pre-Kindergarten not knowing any of their alphabet, their numbers, shapes, or colors. They spend a large amount of time each day on these basic skills, as well as social and fine motor skills. JoAn has been married to her soulmate Graland for almost 30 years. They have four children: Zachery, who is 27, is a graduate of Livingston HS and SFA and a computer programmer. Zoe, who is 25, is a Livingston graduate, with an English degree from SFA and has Masters from TWU. Kaci, who is 19, is also a Livingston graduate and attends SFA. And Abbie , is 17 and a member of this year’s Senior Class at LHS. One of the best things that JoAn likes about her job is the people she works with. They are part of a family, their encouragement and prayers during her bout with cancer was amazing. Even ten years later, she looks back on that year in awe of the relationships that were built and strengthened. She also loves building relationships with her students and the opportunity to make a difference in their lives. She finds this is the most important part of being a teacher. Her first year of teaching a convocation speaker told her “If you have a child’s heart, you have their mind.” Those words stuck with her and have been the basis of many special friendships. This is what their principals have to say about the inductees. Mr. Young: “Mrs. Galloway is committed to making each child healthier and more active at TCE everyday. Not only does she keep up to 60 students active at a time for 55 minutes, whenever she doesn’t have

he Livingston Independent School District implemented a new program in the 2016-17 year called “The Chrome Dome.” The Chrome Dome is a class at Livingston High School that allows students the opportunity to repair the district Chromebooks and work on other technology projects. This project has been instrumental in getting the damaged Chromebooks back into the hands of the students and cutting down on the number of extra units that the district has to have in inventory. Two big partners in this program
have been the Hewlett-Packard Company in Houston, Texas and Livcom, one of Livingston’s local phone service providers. Both companies have worked to give the students in this program a step up as they prepare for life after high school. All of the students this year have earned their HP certificate for repairing a combination of HP products and will be eligible for an internship program with Livcom this summer. This internship will allow students the opportunity to work while attending college. The program has been so successful that it is expanding to the Livingston Junior High campus after the Thanks-

What a blessing to call her friend ! I can think of no one more deserving of this recognition. Congratulations, JoAn!! Mrs. Hill says, “JoAn Delafosse is such a worthy recipient of this award. She goes above and beyond every day to ensure that her Pre-K students are successful. She provides a nurturing classroom environment in which students are free to take risks and take an active role in their own learning. She challenges her students daily and I am constantly amazed at the things her young students are able to accomplish. She welcomes the opportunity to try new things, especially with technology. Her students are engaged, happy and eager to come to school each day. JoAn is a leader on our campus and an important part of our school family. I am so excited that she has been recognized for her hard work and her dedication to our kids.” For their service and commitment to the students and faculty of LISD, we welcome Deena Galloway and JoAn Delafosse into the LISD Apple Corps.

children! Her energy and enthusiasm for fitness encourages them to live healthy lifestyles and enjoy exercising! She is so deserving of this award, and our school is so proud to call her, “Coach Galloway”! Maria Aristondo: Mrs. Galloway was my sons third great teacher. She is an amazing teacher. As a parent, I can say she truly cares about the students. I appreciated her honesty and I appreciate her looking out to do whats best for the children. My son was so blessed to have her as a teacher. He is in the 5th grade now and two years later he still remembers the positive lessons she thought him. Thank you for all you! It does not go unnoticed. Lisa VanWagner: JoAn is SOOO deserving of this award! She is one of the most hard working, talented GEEKS I know! If ever I have a computer question, I know I can go to her and she will drop everything to help me. She is a breath of fresh air and I’m so glad to call her my friend. Mary Smart: I have had the privilege of working with JoAn for ten years. She was my “go to” teacher for our deaf students in the district. She took sign language classes on her own time to be able to communicate with her students. She was kind, encouraging as well as challenging....she was the perfect example of what we would want to see in a teacher working with mainstreamed students. I now am back at Pine Ridge working in her hall.... she offers her knowledge and expertise using technology...she is positive and encouraging with us trying to learn. On a personal note....I fell and broke my leg at the end of school last year...she saw I was trying to fix my door and on her

giving break. Participation in the Chrome Dome program offers a great opportunity for the students at Livingston High School. This program is possible because of the support of the school board, administrators, and teachers. Mrs. Diane Houston is the primary teacher at Livingston High School in the program. Mr. Adam Tiner and Mrs. Celia Davis assist with the technical instruction in the program. They have been preparing the students for a future career in technology. The district is excited to watch this program grow and will continue to produce students that will be needed in the industry.
