Booker T. Washington High School Class of 1967

Now that I've come to the end of the road, And the sun has set for me, I want no rites in a gloom-filled room, Why cry for a soul set free? Miss me a little, but not too long, And not with your head bowed low; Remember the love that we once shared, Miss me, but let me go. For this is a journey that we all must take, And each must go alone. It's all a part of the Master's plan, A step on the road to home. When you are lonely and sick at heart, Go to Jesus whom we know, Laugh at the things we used to do. Miss me, but let me go.

We, the family of Mr. Rickey Xavier Phelps, would like to express with deep, heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all who showed expressions of love, concern and kindness during our time of bereavement. May God forever bless and keep you in His care.

“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Pastor, Saint James A.M.E. Church, Wheeler Hill

Psalm 27:1

Little did I know on that day God was going to call your name.

Rickey accepted Christ at an early age at Saint James A.M.E. Church in Columbia. He was educated in the public schools of Richland County School District One and was a 1967 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School. After graduation, Rickey joined the United States Navy. After leaving the Navy, Rickey entered into the fields of retail management and carpentry. Everyone loved “Rick”, a name he was affectionately called by many. Rickey could light up a room with his comedic way of embellishing one of his stories. He was loving, charming, caring, witty, very generous and a very sharp dresser. If you met him, you would never forget him because he shared such a kind spirit that would last a lifetime. Rickey was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Reneé Cathedral Phelps; and a very special cousin, Cellestine Argroe Hill. He leaves to cherish his loving memory: his beautiful daughter, Bianca Tidwell of Charlotte, North Carolina; one brother, Reginald (Rachel) Phelps, Sr. of Columbia, South Carolina; three sisters: Rosalind PhelpsLeGrand and Rhonda (Calvin) Hoefer, both of Columbia, South Carolina and Regina Phelps Noble of Kennesaw, Georgia; one special brother, Ernest (Reneé) Smalls of Norfolk, Virginia; one aunt, Lizzie (Frank) Anderson; one uncle, Alonzo (Lillie Ruth) Phelps, all of Columbia, South Carolina; three nieces, two nephews, four grandnieces and one grandnephew; and a host of other relatives and friends.
