Deeper Connection Study
He is risen! The apostle Paul learned this firsthand when he encountered Jesus on the Damascus road. That event changed Paul’s life and impacted countless others. All of a sudden, Paul realized what things are worth losing and what brings gain. His greatest gain came at God’s highest cost – Jesus’ death on a cross. Today’s Core Belief discussed: Jesus Christ. Read Philippians 3:7-11 1. How does Paul compare his past position to his relationship with Jesus (vv. 7-9; cf. Matt. 10:39; Lk. 9:25)? 2. What is he saying about the difference between legalistic righteousness and the righteousness that comes through faith in Christ (cf. Rom. 3:20-28)? 3. What is the power of Jesus’ resurrection (v. 10)? Why does Paul want to know Jesus in the way of his suffering, death, and resurrection (cf. Gal. 2:20)? 4. Why is Jesus’ resurrection a miraculous event and an essential doctrine (cf. Rom. 1:4; 6:5; 1 Cor. 15:4-22)? How does it impact and influence your life. 5. For you, how does knowing Christ surpass worldly credentials, accomplishments, and possessions? What is your “profit and loss” in regards to knowing and following Christ (cf. Mark 8:34-38)? 6. How do you know Christ and the power of his resurrection? How can you get to know Christ better? PRAYER TO THE POINT: Praise God for His gracious provision of Jesus Christ to die for our sins. Praise God that Jesus has risen from the dead! Ask God to help you live joyfully for Him and proclaim that Jesus is alive.
The Resurrection Reality
Philippians 3:7-11 It doesn’t matter what age individuals are, they have a tendency to look forward to something that lies ahead. For a child he or she may look forward to his or her birthday and turning another year older. Most students look forward to their summer break, and most parents look forward to their summer break ending. Many young adults look forward to starting a career and getting married, young married couples look forward to having a child, and young parents look forward to their child being out of diapers. You get the picture. So is there a problem with looking forward? There is if looking forward comes with the perception that the next season is where life begins. Unfortunately for too many folks that is the mindset they live with, and the undesirable result of that mindset is discontentment. So how do we avoid that pitfall? Thankfully the Apostle Paul had some divine insight on how we can keep our eyes on the future while living a full life in the present.
