TB cases reported to ETS/ESMI are matched to laboratory isolates from the Mycobacterium Reference Laboratories. M. bovis cases are TB cases that match to an M. bovis isolate. The increase in the number of M. bovis cases reported in the past six years reflects an improvement in notification, rather than a real increase in the number of M. bovis isolates.
