Fine motor skills Colour & Shape recognition Hand-eye coordination Attention and Focus Strengthen hand muscles and improves coordination Children explore shapes and colours as they develop fine motor skills with Nuts & Bolts that fit together easily. Activities: Your children will love playing with nuts and bolts. Sure they aren’t something you’d first think to offer your child to play with but they really are fun and great for developing fine motor skills and other important mathematical concepts. Grouping Objects It might seem like a simple task but when you ask a child to group objects they are analysing shape and learning to make comparisons. You can also try to group all the large and small objects etc. Of course you can add other rules for grouping. Maybe you might like to ask your child to group the objects with flat surfaces or objects that include a hole. So many possibilities. 🙂
In the Classroom: Playing with nuts and bolts is good for their fine motor development. Twisting, pinching and turning each of the objects is great for those smaller muscles in the hand, which of course helps with other activities such as writing.
Why is construction and assembling toys important? Construction resources help to promote a variety of cognitive and physical skills. Construction and manipulative resources promote both fine motor and gross motor development. They encourage problem solving and logical thinking to solve issues such as balancing blocks, where the next piece goes and how to make the structure that they want to build. Team work is also a key feature in the use of construction resources. Children can work together to design and build intricate and thoughtful structures using their creativity, imagination and logical thinking. Social, communication and language skills are all improved through playing with construction resources. Children build perseverance as they build their constructions. Play encourages creativity, imagination, perseverance and the development of language and social skills. Children become more confident and develop a stronger sense of identity through play.
