America’s Greatest Family Resort®

Welcome Center The building of the new Roy Gillian Welcome Center was part of the $396 million New Jersey Department of Transportation rebuilding of the Route 52 bridges and causeway project. It is a replica of the early 20th–century Ocean City Yacht Club that was demolished in 1944. The Welcome Center provides information on attractions, accommodations, restaurants, shopping and recreational activities. In addition to being the central hub of information for all that is Ocean City, the Roy Gillian Welcome Center offers an ample amount of parking, access to the pedestrian walkway and one of four fishing piers along the bridge, rest rooms and scenic wrap-around decks on both levels. It is a wonderful new addition for outdoor recreational activities.

Look for the Sharrow A sharrow is intended to inform cyclists and motorists where a travel lane is shared by both. It has been shown to be helpful in situations where motorists may squeeze cyclists against the curb, where it may not be obvious where cyclists should be riding, or where cyclists commonly ride too close to parked cars.

Sharrows help make roadways safer for everyone! Motorists: • Expect to see bicycles on the street. • Leave a least 3 feet when passing a cyclist. Bicyclists: • Sharrows guide you where to ride in a lane and in which direction. • Sharrows help you to avoid car door injuries, traffic and stay off sidewalks. • Sharrows alert bikers of the “Door Zone”, helping them avoid injury from opening car doors. Ocean City is New Jersey’s first community to use the Sharrow.

• Always ride with traffic, in the SAME direction. • Drivers react much slower to bikers coming towards them. • Intersections are especially dangerous for wrong-way bikers.

Motorists and bikers have the same responsibilities to follow the rules. • Both should use eye contact to avoid collisions. • Both should use courtesy and respect for one another. • Both should drive predictably and with caution.

= Safe bicycle habits for cyclists • Protect your brain, ALWAYS WEAR A HELMET. • New Jersey State Helmet Law: Title 39:4-10.1 In New Jersey, anyone under 17 years of age that rides a bicycle or is a passenger on a bicycle, or is towed as a passenger by a bicycle MUST wear a safety helmet. • Cyclists should walk bikes at unsignaled intersections. • Please use a light at night. • Use hand signals when turning. • Ride single file when in traffic. • Do not text while riding.

Downtown Bicycling • Do not ride on sidewalks. • Park at bicycle racks only.
