On This Day in History 1535 – French explorer Jacques Cartier discovered Quebec, Canada. 1870 – Rome was made the capital of Italy. 1920 – The Cincinnati Reds and the Pittsburgh Pirates played the only triple-header in baseball history. 1950 – The comic strip “Peanuts,” by Charles Schultz, was published for the first time in seven newspapers.
Box Tops for Education The PE department is collecting Box Tops for Education. Please turn them in to your PE/Health teacher.
6/7 Boys Volleyball Tryouts for 6th and 7th grade boys will be held on Monday, Oct. 2nd from 7:30-8:30 am and Tuesday, Oct. 3rd from 3:15-4:45 pm. You must attend BOTH sessions!
Picture Retakes Picture retakes will be on Friday, Oct. 6th. If you were absent on Picture Day or would like a retake, bring your photos and payment envelope to hand to the photographer on that day.
Chorus Chorus members will rehearse today after school until 4:05 pm.
Jazz Band Jazz Band will rehearse Wednesday at Prairie View from 4:00-5:15 pm.
Pizza Party! The Boys Softball pizza party will be Thursday, th Oct. 5 from 3:10-4:00 pm in the Health room. Please return your washed uniform by Thursday!
October is Bullying Prevention Month October is Bullying Prevention month. To raise awareness with students, we will be sharing a statistic, facts and tips to handle bullying during morning announcements. This is the perfect time to be a Patriot! Patriots speak up when they see bullying. Patriots are friends to victims, and Patriots tell an adult when the problem becomes too big for them to handle. Wednesday, Oct. 25th is Unity Day. Unite together and support students being bullied everywhere. Let’s show them that they are not alone and that someone cares by wearing orange on Oct. 25th!
Student Council Student Council will meet Tuesday after school until 4:00 pm in Room 118.

Newspaper Club The first meeting of the Newspaper Club will be after school Tuesday, Oct. 10th in Room 222.
Girls Basketball Tryouts Tryouts for 6th/7th and 8th grade Girls Basketball will be held on Monday, Oct. 2nd from 3:15-4:45 pm, and from 4:45-6:00 pm on Tuesday, Oct 3rd. All participants are required to attend BOTH days!
Pizza/Dippin’ Dots Today is our first PTO Pizza/Dippin’ Dots day! Please remember to thank the parents serving you! Without them, there would not be any special treat days!
Intramurals Intramurals are held each week here at Grissom. Volleyball intramurals are held on Tuesdays, and Basketball intramurals are held on Thursdays. All intramurals are held from 7:45-8:25 am.
Student Support Before and after school Student Support is offered from 8:00-8:35 am each morning, and from 3:10-4:05 pm Monday through Thursday. You must arrive at the beginning of the session and stay for the whole time!
Water Bottle Filling Station Challenge Last year Grissom Patriots saved over 6,600 plastic water bottles from ending up in landfills by using the water bottle filling stations throughout the building. Please remember to use these instead of plastic bottles. So far this year, we’ve saved 2,112 bottles from landfills! Let’s beat last year’s total!
