After a tempestuous adolescence and long months of time in prison, Francis Bernardonen was transformed by divine grace. The Gospels, understood literally, became his rule of life, and his only thought was the imitation of Our Lord in all things. He thought of himself as having married ‘ Lady Poverty’ and was to be seen barefoot,

Fron the Senior Warden
October is here and time to plan for our Christmas Bazaar. We will be having workshops on Thursday to do arts and crafts. This year we are doing projects together as individually so UPCOMING EVENTS as … well ……………….….……....4 just bring your helping hands and ideas. We will be having a section of baked goods and candies. A lot of prayers and questions have been brought up about Jason Mckie. He has accomplished so much in this process of getting use to his prosthesis. His family has been so supportive of him but the determination of going on has been in his hands. I attended St. Stephen’s birthday celebration of 50 years. It was very enjoyable and like old home week for me. I enjoyed visiting with Father Davis and all of my parent’s friends. Where does time go? The Bishop pointed out the similarities from vestry minutes then and now and how they dealt with some of the same issues. It was quite humorous! Episcopalians are sure a fun bunch! Convention is coming up this October and we have several people who have been helping to make it a success. I would like to start a middle of the week program where you bring a casserole to share that night and then you could exchange single dishes to take home with you for that week. Let me know if you would be interested in helping or participating. Thanks, Jan

Sharron received a call from Mary Mitchell on Monday. She is back in Sandpoint and doing very well. She called to have her name taken off the prayer list since she has been declared fully recovered! She is active in a small Episcopal Church in Sandpoint but misses us and sends her regards to her friends and the faith family of St. Mary's.
45th Diocesan Convention The theme for convention this year is “Next Right Steps.” To that end all parishes are asked to collect new socks and new or “gently” used shoes. These can be from infant to adult, male or female. We have located two containers in Ashton Hall. Your donations will be taken to the convention and when said convention is over all donations will be distributed to shelters within the Diocese. For further information, contact Marilyn Lorenzen.

September is National Preparedness Month and what better time to ensure your family’s emergency readiness than with a month dedicated to your safety. Knowing what to do before, during and after an emergency is a critical part of being prepared and may make all the difference when the seconds start to count. Place copies of important family documents (insurance policies, identification and financial records) in a waterproof, portable container near your escape route. Pencil and paper, paper cups and plates, and plastic utensils are useful. And if you have kids, pack some games, books or puzzles.
Maintaining your kit is also important. You will want to replace stored water and food about every six months. Mark the date on containers or cans. For an emergency plan, make sure all family members know where to meet and who to contact in the case you get separated. A relative or friend in another area is an ideal emergency contact person. Make sure everyone in the family knows how to send and receive text messages. If you are tech savvy, consider downloading smart phone apps that provide emergency information. Here's to your good health, Sharron Hollingsworth, RN
