2 014 O UAC H I TA T I G E R S F O O T B A LL LAST YEAR’S CONTEST The Tigers put on a defensive clinic against the Bulldogs in 2013. Ouachita held SWOSU to 133 total yards on 52 plays. SWOSU only gained 39 passing yards in the game going 6-23 through the air. SWOSU recorded only nine first downs in the contest. Neither team ran the ball particularly well, with each team averaging a combined 2.8 yards per carry. The Tigers did score two rushing touchdowns in the game. Steven Kehner led the Tigers with 52 yards rushing and a touchdown. Defensively for SWOSU, the Bulldogs were one of two teams to hold the Tigers under 100 yards rushing in a game in 2013. After throwing an interception for a defensive touchdown to start the game, Ouachita answered with 20 straight points and cruised to a 31-14 win. The Tigers scored the game’s final points with a safety in the Southwestern end zone. Wide receiver Ke’Vontae Pope had a breakout game with 14 catches for 135 yards. Kicker Matt Ehasz went 3-3 on field goal attempts of 32, 33 and 31 yards.

PAUL SHARP CUP Saturday’s game marks the second year that Ouachita and SWOSU will play for the Paul Sharp Cup. Sharp is the Bulldogs’ all-time winningest coach with 92 victories from 1986-2004, including the 1996 NAIA National Championship. Sharp received a Bachelor of Science degree from Ouachita Baptist University in 1975 and a Master of Science in education in 1977.

FINDING A RHYTHM The Tigers offense is averaging 488 yards per game. The ground game is averaging 255.7 yards per game, while the passing attack averages 232.3 yards per game. Ouachita has scored nine rushing touchdowns and thrown five touchdown passes so far this season. The Tigers are completing 60.4 percent of their third-down conversions, good for second best in the country. PICK TO CLICK Ouachita ranks seventh in the country in interceptions with eight. They are one of three teams in the GAC to be ranked in the top nationally. Safety Zack Mitchell leads the team with five interceptions and is second in the country with a 1.7 interception-per-game average. Freshman AJ Burton has two picks and is ranked 26th with a 0.7 interception-per-game average. SPECIAL DELIVERY The Tigers are third in the nation in punt-return defense and 10th in kickoff-return defense. They lead the GAC in both categories.
