ohn Jay Girls Soccer – 2017 Season Parents & Players, You should all be very excited for the challenges and opportunities ahead for the upcoming soccer season. Our goal is to continue building upon the success of the 2016 season with the addition of new coaching staff and welcoming new players, I am anticipating an exciting season for John Jay Girls Soccer. Varsity tryouts are Wednesday, August 16th through Saturday August 19th. Registration for fall sports through Family ID opens on July 16th and closes August 7th. (JV tryouts will start Aug 21st) Preparation for the High School season is important, however for some players who have played during the winter and spring seasons it is also important to ensure you have a short break during the start of the summer for rest and recovery. Leading up to the season players should be building and maintaining their fitness levels and getting touches on the soccer ball. Student-athletes have a responsibility to themselves, team mates and the program to arrive for tryouts fit and ready to play. Pre-season training opportunities (optional) For players interested in a pre-season training opportunity we are encouraging the team to attend a preseason Residential camp in New Milford CT. The camp focuses on all aspects players need going into the season (technical/tactical/fitness) whilst also providing team building exercises and a great social environment for players to be involved in before the season starts to build team cohesion. Myself and Coach Prince who coached our pre-season last year will both be at the camp. Our team has a $100 discount off the camp; Camp dates: 6th-10th August Cost: $575 (this is the price after our team discount) Discount code: 1-1100-1050 For more information: http://soccerextreme.com/residential-camp.php To register: http://soccerextreme.com/Online/A5D.php?CID=81067701&wl=0&sl=5 Tryout information – what we are looking for Tryouts will be heavily focused on technical work and tactical understanding, key areas we look at are; • Being competent and confidence with your skills on the ball • Ability to play in situations under high pressure • Decision making and creativity on the ball • Movement and decisions off the ball • Adaptability and problem solving We will have some fitness testing during tryouts, however most fitness will be assessed through the intensity and speed of the technical exercises we do.
