Olathe Couple Takes Husband & Wife Tennis Championship Duo of Marissa and Mel Brown add to Gold Ball collection. KANSAS CITY, MO. – Talk about a power couple. Junior and Marissa Brown won the USTA National Husband Wife Mixed Hard Court Championship over the weekend at the Plaza Tennis Center in Kansas City. It’s the third time the Browns, both of Olathe, Kan., have won the Husband Wife Hard Court Championship and a prestigious gold ball. The Browns defeated Kevin Braun and Chelsea Braun, also of the Kansas City area, in the finals 7-5,6-2. The Browns and Brauns had little trouble advancing to the finals. The Browns lost just four games prior to reaching the finals, while the Brauns lost just 7 games. Taking third place at the event were Mike and Sabrina Nunnelee of Tulsa, Okla.

This year marked the ninth consecutive year the tournament has been held in Kansas City. The Hard Court Championship is one of the four husband and wife tournaments the USTA hosts each year around the country. The others are the Indoor Championship, the Grass Court Championship and the Clay Court Championship.
