OLENTANGY BRAVES BOYS SOCCER TEAM EMPHASIS

Varsity Building a competitive culture with high expectations and standards where players, coaches, and teams are committed to the same goals. The concentration on the physical requirements of the game is high in importance and sophistication. A culture of excellence become apparent and prominent throughout the program. This team believes in playing an attractive, attacking brand of soccer that is balanced by a highly organized, disciplined, and fit team. At this stage, an increased level of commitment must exist to meet the team expectations and standards set by the program.

Junior Varsity A The importance of winning is a main focus but it should not replace development. The physical demands of the game start to play more of a role in our training regimen as a base level of fitness through speed, balance and agility is expected. An increased level of technical sophistication while beginning to challenge the players on small group tactics will be the priority.

Junior Varsity B & Freshman Team The emphasis of JV B soccer is still on individual player development while the concept of keeping all players on the field involved and connected is reinforced. Small sided 4 v 4 to 6 v 6 exercises, along with numbers up/down situations, are now introduced with an increased awareness of the concepts of attack (develop and identify goal scorers) and the responsibility of everyone to defend. Roles and responsibilities become more established for the positional play within a system. Team shape on both sides of the ball will be a focus as well as certain requirements within the system of play. The concept of zonal defending will also be a major focus.
