2017-2018 Program Budget – The Executive Committee will be meeting to review program budgets and fees for the upcoming season. The OMGBA fiscal year runs from June 1 – May 31. Operations Director Report (Cori Davison) The calendar for the upcoming 2017-2018 season will be posted on the website in June - July. All permits are requested at that time and coordinators can plan for their coaches meetings and registration deadlines. Clinics will begin in August with travel tryouts held in September. Department Reports Travel Commissioner (Jason Paurus) End of season surveys are complete and summaries were sent to the respective coaches. The committee will be contacting coaches directly to discuss specific concerns. A sign up will be available online for individuals interested in interviewing for travel coach positions for the upcoming season. Registration for travel tournaments begins in June and July. OMGBA will continue to monitor which associations attend its tournaments to ensure OMGBA is supporting those associations. As a part of their travel fees, travel teams will be scheduled for 10 tournaments during the season. Elementary Commissioner (Cori Davison) Third & Fourth Grade - In the past, OMGBA has asked parents to complete a paper survey at the end of each session. A free online survey service was used on a trial basis at the end of the 3rd/4th grade winter session. The results of utilizing the service are very mixed. The number of completed surveys was considerably lower than with paper surveys. Since it was a free service, the number of questions that could be asked was limited to 10 resulting in less detail that what the paper surveys provide. In addition, there is a place on the paper survey to complete for those interested in volunteering or joining the Board which was also not included with the limitations of the free service. A suggestion was made to no longer provide participation trophies at the elementary program levels. After much discussion surrounding this item, motions were made to award trophies solely for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and consolation champion levels for both the 3rd/4th grade and 5th/6th grade programs, medals will continue to be awarded for “Best Skills” and “Most Improved Skills” in both programs. MOTION DEFEATED for the 3rd/4th grade. MOTION APPROVED for 5th/6th grade. Current rules for the 3rd grade program require use of the appropriate hand for dribbling to the basket and “an attempt” to be made to shoot a layup with the appropriate hand during the skills portion of games. Under the 4th grade rules,

the proper hand must be used for the skill to count. There was discussion as to whether the 3rd grade rules should be changed to match those of 4th grade. Coaches are told what constitutes an “attempt” at the coaches meetings held at the beginning of the season. No rule change will be made at this time however, coaches will be asked to stand with the referees during skills evaluations so they are aware of which baskets are being counted. In addition, coaches will not be allowed to count out loud during the pass and catch drill. MGCG Utilization Committee Operating Expenses - OMGBA met with representatives from the City of Maple Grove and ISD 279 to review the operating expenses from the past year. OMGBA makes quarterly payments to the city based on an estimate of operating expenses for the year. Actual expenses were in line with the projections and payments will continue for the upcoming year at the same level. Microphone – The Committee has approached ISD 279 with the concept of adding wireless microphone capabilities to the facility and will work through channels within for implementation. Sr High League Commissioner (Ben Schwanz) Coaches were surveyed to determine their satisfaction with the league. They were asked to consider whether OMGBA should continue to participate in the NWSBL or whether the program should withdraw from the league and play only OMGBA teams. A majority did support leaving the league, however, results were not overwhelming. Coaches supported a more consistent approach to disciplinary actions and team formation among the member associations. The main concern regarding taking over the entire league is the amount of volunteers required to successfully run it. There would be extensive work to get the league up and running and then to continue to operate it in future years. As members of the NWSBL, OMGBA shares administrative responsibilities with the other member associations. Running a league would require additional help in an area that has struggled with soliciting volunteers. The NWSBL will be meeting prior to the next OMGBA Board meeting in May and there will be representatives from OMGBA in attendance at that meeting. OMGBA remains optimistic that a resolution can be reached with regard to the Board’s concerns over league operations. Meeting adjourned: 9:40 pm. Next Board Meeting: Monday, May 8th, 2017 at MGCC
