Opening Information for day students and their families August 2016 Here are a few extra tips and notes to help you understand the schedule of the opening week. There is a lot of detail here, but last year parents appreciated knowing this general information before registration day. We hope you find it helpful. This is the general framework, you will get a more specific schedule via email on the day of registration, but feel free to contact Laurie Rice 717-328-6119 if you have a specific question before then, and she will point you in the right direction. The general schedule of registration times is posted on the website’s parent portal. Monday, August 29 (new students and families only) • Because you do not have to set up a room you may want to arrive towards the end of the registration period closer to 12:30 p.m. (11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.) so there is not so much “down” time between registration and Inbound. • For Inbound, day students will spend the night in their assigned dormitories on Monday, August 29; please make sure to bring a sleeping bag and a pillow, toothbrush, etc., and clothing for the overnight and the next day. Please put these items in your locker before the meeting in the Chapel begins at 3:30 p.m. You will receive your locker assignment and location at registration. The dorm deans will let students know where they will be sleeping that night. Tuesday, August 30 • Reminder – returning student registration, including day students - 1: 00 – 2:30 p.m. • Inbound ends by 3:45 p.m. and all school activities begin at 4:00 p.m. You should pick up your child at 8:40 p.m. that night following the school meeting which takes place from 7:30 – 8:30 p.m. A logical place for pick-up is near the dormitory to which your child is assigned. Day students may not spend the night in the dormitories during opening week except for Inbound night on Monday, August 29. Wednesday, August 31 – Friday, September 2 • Students need to be on campus no later than 8:30 a.m. Breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m. and continues until 8:30 a.m. for all students. Breakfast is not required for day students, but all day students are welcome and encouraged to eat breakfast with their performance group activity group. Students who need to arrive before 7:30 a.m. may use their fobs to enter their dormitories and stay in the common rooms until breakfast begins. • Day students must be picked up by a designated time each night based on the required activities they will be involved in. Please understand that even though they may leave at an earlier time, the students may actually want to stay to be with their friends until 10:00 p.m. when the schedule allows and enjoy the on-campus camaraderie. Students will receive a more detailed schedule on Tuesday, August 30. But for your planning purposes, here are the times for pick up (the earliest and the latest) each day.

Wednesday, August 31 – Pick up no earlier than 6 p.m. and no later than 10 p.m. Thursday, September 1 – Pick up no earlier than 9:30 p.m. and no later than 10 p.m. Friday, September 2 – Pick up no earlier than 8:30 p.m. (although they may be involved in their PGA until 10:00 p.m. depending on their PGA; their PGA group will let them know the time they can depart when they meet with them on Monday afternoon, and no later than 10 p.m.) Saturday, September 3 • There are PGAs (athletics, community engagement, theatre, tech crew, outdoor education) for most groups in the morning. Please check with your child once they get the schedule for the week to determine when they need to be at school on Saturday. There will be a fun not-required student activity (a dance) for the entire school that evening. There are also various optional shopping trips off campus in the afternoon. Once required activity obligations are concluded on Saturday, day students may head home or stay on campus for evening activities. Most students will be able to depart by 2:00 p.m. but many of them may want to stay. That is up to you. If day students stay on campus, they must be picked up no later than 11 p.m. Sunday, September 4 • All students are required to have their picture taken by 11:30 a.m., attend convocation at 2:30 p.m., and stay for the school and class and dorm pictures after convocation. It is fine for day students to arrive for pictures any time between 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Day students are free to stay through the evening picnic until 9:00 p.m. or head home after class and dorm pictures. All of these picture obligations should be completed by 5:30 p.m. Day students who stay on campus after pictures must be picked up no later than 9:00 p.m. Monday, September 5 • Classes begin at 8:50 a.m.! Students are welcome for breakfast too.
