Wildcat Strength Department Overview Mission Statement
Abilene Christian University Strength and Conditioning will provide a Christ-‐centered environment for student-‐athletes to maximize their athletic potential as well as teach them leadership skills, accountability and the grit needed to excel in both athletics and future endeavors.
Training Philosophy
Abilene Christian University Strength and Conditioning is dedicated and determined to developing the student-‐athlete’s spiritual, physical, and mental ability to the highest level possible. This will be achieved through comprehensive training programs based on sound principals that emphasize the improvement of sports performance. Department Scripture

An official orientation is required before use of the facility All facility use must be supervised by an ACU Strength Coach Proper workout attire is required (no tank tops, hats, or other schools gear) No jewelry (No earrings, chains, rings, etc.) Be on time to scheduled lifts Weight room must be picked up and cleaned after use each use Respect equipment, facility, and staff at all times No equipment leaves the facility without the permission of a ACU Strength Coach The ACU Strength Coach has authority over the radio You are responsible for your own belongings Electronic devices are not allowed in the weight room; must be stored in cubbies All guests and visitors must check in with an ACU Strength Coach If you are injured, it must be reported to an Athletic Trainer No one is allowed behind the fueling station counter unless granted permission from an ACU Strength Coach

Utilizing the weight room is a privilege, failure to follow these rules will result in loss of privileges.
Wildcat Strength Policies and Procedures
Hours of Operation Responsibilities: Strength and Conditioning Staff 1) Be available for weight room conditioning sessions from 5:00am to 8:00pm Monday through Friday, (Saturdays as needed). The weight room will be closed on Sundays unless otherwise scheduled. Head Coaches 1) Remain respectful and courteous to the hours and times reserved for your team. Please be sure to communicate with the strength and conditioning staff about all changes and/or requests. Student-‐Athletes 1) Be on time for all scheduled sessions.
Weight Room Apparel Responsibilities: Strength and Conditioning Staff 1) Only ACU or plain athletic apparel will be allowed during training sessions. NO apparel from other institutions (high school, college, universities, or clubs) will be allowed during training sessions. Head Coach 1) Be sure athletes, recruits, or guests utilizing the facility are issued ACU gear. Student Athlete 1) Make sure your athletic apparel is clean and you show your pride in your school logo. 2) No hats, jewelry or tank tops in weight room. Program Design and Administration of Teams Responsibilities: Strength and Conditioning Staff 1) Periodized training will include progression of difficulty in exercises, intensities, and volumes to induce peak performance for the sport season. 2) Research suggests that annual periodized training programs are effective in bringing athletes to their highest potential. 3) Testing will be performed by the strength and conditioning staff to determine and monitor performance gains.
Head Coaches 1) Provide support and aid in suggesting/enforcement of strength and conditioning programs. 2) Provide support if test scores are poor unless certain circumstances exist. Student-‐Athlete 1) Realize that this is college athletics and your opponents train all year around. 2) Make sure you communicate with your strength and conditioning coach during holiday and or/breaks to insure that success will be continued. 3) Report any injury to the AT Staff and to the head strength and conditioning coach prior to training session so proper modifications can be made.
Training Sessions Responsibilities: Strength and Conditioning Staff 1) Be prepared and ready for training session. 2) Bring energy to every training session. Head Coaches 1) Training sessions are viewed as “practices.” Interruption of training is a disruption of concentration and the flow of training. This in turn can decrease performance of that training session. 2) Meetings with athletes must be performed before or after the scheduled training session. Student-‐Athletes 1) Set up individual meetings with coaches/trainers before or after training sessions. Not during the training session. 2) Be prepared, focused, and give you full effort during each training session.
Teams That Report Late Responsibilities: Head Coaches 1) To make sure the athletes arrive to training sessions on time. 2) To be aware of the athletes training times, even during practice and meetings. Student Athlete 1) Remind coaches during meetings of scheduled weight lifting time. 2) Be a leader and make sure all of your team is on time and accounted for.
Cancellations or Postponements Responsibilities: Strength and Conditioning Staff 1) The strength and conditioning staff must provide a 24 hours’ notice if a training session will be cancelled or postponed for any reason. Head Coach 1) Sport coaches are required to let the strength and conditioning staff know of the cancellation at least 24 hours before the training session. Student Athletes 2) Make sure to communicate with your strength coach about any days that will be missed; must be a legitimate reason. You MUST send an email notification prior to the training session. **Because of scheduling concerns it is important for sport coaches and their athletes to be at the weight room at the designated time. Teams that report late or cancel/postpone consistently may lose their privilege.
Training Session Make-Ups Responsibilities: Strength and Conditioning Staff 1) Strength and conditioning staff will provide alternate times for makeup sessions. 2) A member of the strength and conditioning staff must be present for make ups. Head Coach 1) Make sure the athlete communicates with the strength and conditioning staff about absences prior to training session. Student Athletes 1) Alert the strength and conditioning staff of any absence prior to training session. 2) Schedule a make-‐up training session with strength coach. 3) Be on time to your makeup training session. Holiday Coverage of Training Sessions Responsibilities: Strength and Conditioning Staff 1) All training sessions can be covered during recognized holidays with the exception of the following: Easter and Christmas. Head Coaches 1) Be sure to request one month prior if a scheduled holiday is to be utilized. 2) Make sure athletes are aware of the holiday schedule. Student-‐Athletes 1) Holiday training sessions must be made in advance with strength coach.

One individual will call for emergency service. • Landline phone located in Coach Miguez’s office -‐ dial 9-‐9-‐1-‐1 • Cell phone -‐ dial 9-‐1-‐1 During the call tell the operator the following: • *Nature of emergency • *Type of injury • *Status of injured individual • *What is being done for the individual • *Your name • *Phone number you are calling from • *Location Address is…ACU Powell Fitness Center, 2195 Oliver Jackson Blvd. Abilene, Texas 79699 **located directly behind the football stadium-‐next to the track. -‐-‐Ambulance needs to come to front of building 2. If someone is available, instruct them to go outside to wait for ambulance and direct the medics down into the varsity weight room. 3. As soon as possible, notify campus safety and athletic trainer of injuries requiring emergency care.
