June 14,2012,a prison riot erupted in San Quentin, inside the education building

between Black and Hispanic students. At approximately 12:30PM, lifer inmate Phoeun

You, died from multiple stab wounds from saving the life of Daniel Bryant-his teacher/supervisor.

A fight occurred between two rival gang members about a heated discussion concerning

"fr@$rizona law, SB 1070-a law that allows law enforcement the right lffih3individuals for legal documentations without cause. During the melee, prisoners pulled out pdsonmade weapons and used that opportunity to attack Mr. Bryant, whom they believed to be a

racist. Mr. You observed what was about to take place and stepped in front of Mr.

Bryant in hopes of diffusing the situation. Mr. You was pronounced dead at 12:30PM by San Quentin medical

staff. A San Quentin spokesperson said, "Mr. You died a hero."
