Importance of social emotional development

The “G”reat Expectation - depression  School’s – expectations – excel beyond textbooks and classroom.  Teacher’s – expectations – prepare for the great academic achievements.  Parent’s – expectations – take on jobs, master technology, riding the wave of opportunities, chart new directions.

Are we risking our future–our children? What are we doing in matters of  social emotional development  spiritual /character development Who’s job is it for character development of your children?  Teacher  Parents/families  School/community When do the job of character development begins?  the first years last for ever.

Compassion/Character Education   To Bring up children to be thinkers and not mere reflectors of other men’s thought.   To Produce children who will be strong thinkers and actors, -who are masters and not slaves of circumstances, -- who posses breath of mind, clearness of thought and the courage of their convictions. Children that cannot be bought or sold integrity   To Educate our children is providing more than mental discipline, physical training. It is building the character, so that truth and uprightness are not sacrificed to self desire.   It is to Teach (3RiCH) values.   The process does not ignore the value of scientific knowledge or literary acquirements; but above information it values power; above power, goodness; above intellectual acquirements, CHARACTER.   Your future does not so much need men of great intellect as of noble character. It needs men in whom ability is controlled by steadfast principle. (White, 1903)

3RiCH – the compassionate child   Respect – self worth ,intrinsic worth of all people.   Resilience – has emotional strength and perseverance in face of challenge-manifest courage , optimism, adaptability and resourcefulness.   Responsibility –duty to self, family, community nation and world – fulfill with love and commitment.

  Integrity – uphold ethical principles and has the moral courage to stand up for what is right.   Care – act with kindness and compassion –contribute to betterment of community and the world

togetherness, appreciates the unity and diversity of multicultural society.
