In 1916, CW Lonsdale built a school nestled in a rainforest on Vancouver Island. In 1926, the School burned to the ground; 9 months later, it was rebuilt. The character shown by the Founder in the face of adversity remains the foundation upon which Shawnigan is built. Your gift to the Annual Fund sustains our ability to continue building that character in our students, year in and year out.
Mr. Lonsdale brought with him a drive for educational excellence instilled during his days as a student at Westminster School in London. Today, Shawnigan’s faculty includes two recipients of the Prime Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence among a group of talented and dedicated individuals. Your gift allows our staff (100% of whom also support the Annual Fund) to enjoy first-class professional development opportunities.
Our Students Shawnigan has a heritage of providing an unparalleled education to students of character, regardless of their economic circumstance. Today, more than 25% of our students attend Shawnigan because of the generosity of others. Your Annual Fund support helps ensure our ability to offer a complete education to all our deserving young men and women.
Our Community From our humble beginnings, Shawnigan has now become the world. We count young people from more than thirty countries and six continents among our student body, and work hard at ensuring a diverse community that is reflective of our ever more global society. Your annual gift creates a culture that encourages students of all backgrounds to make Shawnigan their “home away from home.”
