Have a Drink With Me – Instructions for May My ‘free pattern of the month’ is my gift to you. It is not intended for resale use, in any form. This is a copyright pattern, it would be a shame to see it misused in any other purpose from what my intent is. The “theme” of all 12 blocks, will be ‘drinks’. I have completed all 12 blocks and am making a quilt with the blocks. Instructions for this quilt will be available in December 2013. If you wish to make the quilt, complete the block each month and set it aside until all of the blocks are complete. Feel free to make anything you wish with this pattern, they would be super cute on Tea Towels, Table Runners, Place Mats, etc… It is entirely up to you. If you are on Facebook, please look up Unseen Hands and like my page to see the completed colored block. I thought I would try playing around with “Fabric Paint”. Adding color (either paint or Crayon) just gives the final project more ‘pop’, after you stitch around the picture. Please do not feel like you have to add color, if you wish not to. The embroidery floss I chose goes with the colors of paint I used, so again… feel free to use any colors you would like to use. These patterns are supposed to be fun, so just have fun with them. Because I am a beginner with the fabric paint, I tested out several brands of paint. I ended up using a mixture of “Scribbles” and “Tulip” from a local craft store. They are machine washable (I tested them). I am sure as I work more with paint I will work my way up to other brands. With this said, I am including fabric paint in small areas of the 12 blocks. I can’t be too specific on the exact colors, because I mixed colors to get a brighter or darker effect. If you use either paint or crayons for color, just remember to follow their instruction and “heat set” the colors, so it will not ruin your finished project. The pattern will only be up on the website for the appropriate month. If you miss a month you can purchase the months you missed, off of my website.
Instructions: You will need 1 ¼” yard of cream (or color of your choice) for all 12 months, if you would like the backgrounds to match. Page 2 of 3
Cut (12) 10” x 12” fabric blocks, press. Using a light table (or sunlit window), tape the pattern to the light table. Center the fabric over the pattern and tape in place. Trace the pattern onto one of the 10” x 12” blocks by using your favorite marking pen. I use a Pigma Pen (#01), it is a fine line that will not smear and will be hidden when you embroider over it. Set the remaining blocks aside until the next month. After tracing, apply the coloring technique of your choice, if you wish to add color. After coloring is complete (make sure paint is dry), heat set the paint or crayon, usually by laying a paper towel over the colored sections and ironing over the top of it. Begin to embroider: I always double back my embroidery project with inexpensive muslin to help prevent threads from showing through the front of the project. All embroidery is backstitched using 2 strands of floss. All dots are French knots (2 loop unless otherwise noted). I used colors that matched my paints, so if you use different colors and would like to use your own color of floss, I usually pick a shade of floss darker then the colored areas to outline the color.
