Championship Center

The new Championship Center boasts a state of the art Athletic Performance Center.

The Championship Center features two full-length basketball courts.

Championship Center In the summer of 2014, Creighton opened The Championship Center, a facility that will benefit all studentathletes for years to come. Located adjacent to D.J. Sokol Arena and the Wayne and Eileen Ryan Athletic Center, the Championship Center is highlighted by the Athletic Performance Center, Wayne and Eileen Ryan Athletic Training Center, the Parker Family Academic Resource Center and the Kyle Korver Courts inside D.J. Sokol Gymnasium, among many other features. The Parker Academic Resource Center (left) features private meeting and study rooms with access to tutors, a computer lab, wireless internet, couches, tables, chairs and many more accouterments to help Bluejay student-athletes make the most of their time. In addition the Championship Center provides a film room (above), available for all Creighton teams.

The Athletic Training facilities allow athletes to regenerate in both an ice bath (left), hot water recovery area and an underwater treadmill (right).

2015-16 Season Preview After blending five freshmen into the fold during the 2014-15 season, Creighton will bring aboard five new faces once more in 2015-16. Unlike last season the large incoming class is not to replace to outgoing group, but to bring more depth to the Bluejay team.

While Faber and Agnew will see some time in the post, both are expected to get the bulk of their minutes on the wing. Senior Tessa Leytem as well as Lamberty will also get some time in this role. The Bluejays have in excess players that have the flexibility to play multiple roles. Depending the opponent, McGrory could also slide into this role.

For the first time since the 2005-06 season Creighton enters the season with a full complement of 15 players on the bench.

Guards

Similar to the wings, Creighton will have several options at guard. Janning will see time as both the point guard as well as off the ball. In addition to Janning, expect to see sophomore Jade Owens and Lamberty control the tempo and direct the Bluejays’ offense. Freshman Olivia Elger and sophomore walk-on Aimee Rischard will each be given an opportunity to earn time at the point guard as well.

The group of newcomers for the upcoming season are comprised of four freshmen, including two ranked in ESPN’s 2015 HoopGurlz Recruiting Top-100 Rankings, and one walk-on sophomore. “We’re not going to be a six or seven person rotation team, we will play 10 or maybe even 11 players,” noted head coach Jim Flanery. “With our depth there is a comfort level in knowing you can succeed through some stretches when players are banged up.” Creighton returns four starters, led by the 2014 BIG EAST Player of the Year Marissa Janning. The Bluejays’ leading scorer for each of her first three seasons, Janning enters her senior campaign with a chance to become just the fourth player in Creighton history to score 2,000 points in her career. Averaging just over 15 points per game last season, Marissa earned a spot on the All-BIG EAST First Team for the second consecutive season and also claimed the first BIG EAST Sportsmanship Award. In addition to Janning, the Bluejays welcome back juniors MC McGrory and Brianna Rollerson as well Sydney Lamberty from the starting five in 2014-15.

The shooting guard role will see McGrory and junior Lauren Works as well as sophomore Myah Mellman all get opportunities.

Junior Brianna Rollerson

Lamberty had a stellar freshman season, closing as the third leading scorer (10.0 ppg) and second for the Bluejays with 90 assists. In addition, Lamberty was an All-BIG EAST Freshman Team selection.

Posts

The post role in Flanery’s system is going to be fluid. Rollerson as well as Kylie Brown and Bailey Norby saw significant minutes in the traditional post, or center, position. Freshman Ali Greene will push the three returners as well.

“When you have a smaller group it is easier to create a cohesive unit, but players can get comfortable with their roles,” said Flanery. “The larger roster forces each player to compete for playing time.” The two players that made the largest jump during the offseason appear to be Works and Owens. “Lauren and Jade have both had a great summer and fall,” noted Flanery. “Neither of them were healthy last summer and with an opportunity to work on their game, we are seeing positive results.”

Rollerson was a force on the block for Creighton, leading the team with 216 rebounds (7.0 rpg). She led the Bluejays with five double-doubles last season, including 22 points and 10 rebounds against Xavier as well as 16 points and 13 boards in an overtime win versus Kansas. While the quartet above provide a post presence in the paint, there were stretches that the Bluejays ran a four-guard lineup that asked Alexis Akin-Otiko to play the lone post player on the floor last season.

Wings

Expect a four-guard lineup to continue with freshmen Audrey Faber or Jaylyn Agnew stepping into the vacated role. Both Faber and Agnew come to Creighton with impressive credentials, each earning a spot in ESPN’s 2015 HoopGurlz Recruiting Top-100 Rankings. Faber comes was the first recruit to bring such lofty expectations with her to the Bluejays, carrying the No. 81 spot in the spring. She was elevated to No. 72 prior to the beginning of school. Agnew, meanwhile, nabbed No. 100 in the most recent rankings. Sophomore Sydney Lamberty
