Pale-headed Lorikeet (Blue-headed) Scientific Name:Trichoglossus haematodus caeruleiceps

Class: AVES (Birds) Order: Psittaciformes Physical Adaptations: Head is bright blue over black under feather with males having more black in rear of head. Breast is red/orange with very narrow dark blue margins. The abdomen varies from green to almost black. The nape is yellow/green. The head and abdomen are usually lighter in female “Brush” Tongue (Tip of tongue has papillae that are designed to feed on nectar and particularly pollen)

Behavioral Adaptations: Common among the Trichoglossus Genus is a shrill vocalization as well as head bobbing and strutting with an unusual eye dilation as part of the courting behavior

Primary Diet: Wild: nectar, flowers, fruits, berries, pollen, seeds, buds, insects and their larva
