The Community Builders, Inc. Part of a revitalization program located in the Washington Park neighborhood within Chicago’s burgeoning community of Bronzeville, the LIHTC funded development integrates both renovation and new construction to provide mixed-income housing with communal studio/ workspaces. The project is carefully designed to reinforce the historic context of the south side neighborhood and offer affordable housing to working artist households. Extensive meetings with local artists, focus groups, and organizations facilitated the design process and led to preservation of historic character with incorporation of special design elements to meet living space needs of the artist lifestyle and community.
