Parent and Family Engagement Plan Searcy High School 2017-18

Searcy High School has a shared responsibility with parents to educate all students that are enrolled in our school with the understanding that engaging parents is essential to improving student achievement and making our school the best that it can be.

Parent and Family Engagement Facilitator: Mitzie Cannon 1. Informational Packets are available in the Library at the Parent Center section. 2. Parent and Family Engagement Meetings: a. Open-house for parents at the beginning of each school year b. Pre-registration for students and parents c. 9th Grade Orientation August 7th (Brochure included) d. Annual Report to the Public e. Searcy High School Financial Aid Night (starts @ 6:30 p.m. dates to be announced yearly) f. High school Facebook page g. Facebook information page from our Counseling Center h. Science Night i. EAST night j. Parent-Teacher Conferences (2) k. Parent-Feedback Meetings-scheduled twice a semester l. Athletic events: football, basketball, volleyball, etc. m. Fines arts performances: band and choir concerts, plays, etc.

n. Teachers receive professional development hours on effective parent involvement strategies o. Administrators receive professional development hours that include understanding effective parent involvement strategies and the importance of administrative leadership in parent/school involvement

3. Other parent contact opportunities: a. Searcy High School Website-daily announcements and school functions and email list are available for parents. b. Home Access Center (HAC)- grade information with e-mail addresses for teachers-parents are encouraged to email and communicate with our teachers through the main office at 501-268-8315. c. Home Access Center (HAC) registration center in library for parents that are interested in having help and assistance with getting onto the HAC website and setting up their account for the year or semester, so they can view their students’ information. d. Parents will receive vital communication through our School Messenger Service. Parents receive a phone call directly from our high school letting parents know about up-coming events: parent-teacher conferences, high school registration and/or school dismissal days due to inclement weather or any other school related activity that parents may need to put on their calendar. e. The Parental Involvement News Letter will be on the SHS Website to offer parents tips on how to help their students be successful in high school and the workforce.
