July 2015 Dear Parents and Carers As we draw another school year to a close. I would like to thank you, most sincerely, for your support over the past twelve months. The year has been packed full of excellent learning opportunities and enriching events, which the students have greatly enjoyed and benefitted from. It remains our very great pleasure and privilege to provide for their learning and growth as young people; they are an inspiration to us all! The Governors and I are, as ever, very grateful to and proud of the excellent staff here at St. Thomas More who go “above and beyond” in their support of your children. We also remain extremely grateful to the priests of the Deanery for their support and encouragement of our faith journey. Thank you to parents/carers who have opted to receive information, letters, etc by Parent Mail (email and texts) next year. There is still time to set this up; all we need is an up to date email address and mobile phone number. If you would like to email the school ([email protected]) with this information, we will add you to our growing number of parents who would like communication by this means. This last “parent posting” of the year contains information which I hope you will find useful and informative and includes: • • • • •
School Newsletter, July 2015 – a celebration of just some of the rich variety of student experiences this half term. Uniform policy – please note previous guidance: skirts should be no shorter than 18 inches in length as measured form the waistband and not skirts that are essentially tubular in design and made out of stretchy, jersey material (May 2015). Holiday/Term dates 2015/16 – please note the September return dates for different Year Groups. Curriculum Activities Report 2014/15 – this can be accessed on the school website www.stmacademy.or.uk and details the many and varied opportunities provided by the school for your children throughout this academic year. Hexham and Newcastle Catholic Partnership Website www.hncps.co.uk which details the exciting and varied opportunities our students have benefitted from this year due to our involvement in this strong partnership of 12 Catholic secondary schools and academies in the Diocese.
Please note that we have become increasingly concerned by some students trying to use their mobile phones inappropriately in lessons. In September we will be reminding all students and then enforcing the rule that this is not expected or allowed. While we hope it will not be necessary, if students do not comply with expectations, mobile phones will be confiscated and locked in the school’s “secure room” until the end of the day. We will inform parents by letter if this action is taken. We ask for your support in this matter as this behaviour interrupts learning. Finally, I would like to wish you and your family a most enjoyable summer break. We will be “recharging our batteries” and look forward to the return of your children in September, for the start of 2015/16. Yours sincerely,
