Welcome
It doesn’t take an expert to look at our world in 2015 and say, “Something isn’t right.” Recent national events remind us that racial tensions, racial mistrust, and even racial hatred can seemingly erupt at any moment. We have all witnessed the confusion in our culture over the nature of gender identity as well as the confusion over what constitutes a legitimate marriage. Regardless of where any person in our society takes a stand on those particular issues, it’s evident to all that there are deep divides and damaged lives as a result. Additionally there are significant issues that concern the poor, the difficulty many have in securing a job, and the plight of the immigrant. I could go on, but I would just be telling you things you already know. We live in a world with some problems. But what to do? In an attempt to navigate these historic times as followers of Jesus we are going to spend several weeks studying the Old Testament book of Nehemiah. Our series, Nehemiah: Making a Difference in a Damaged World, will begin on August 2 and run through the first Sunday in October. While preparing for this series, I have been personally challenged by the message of Nehemiah in my own life and how directly it speaks to our world today. I am praying we will each be awakened to the brokenness around us and begin to understand how we can make a substantial impact right now. I encourage you to begin reading Nehemiah in your Bible as preparation. Familiarize yourself with the amazing story of Nehemiah’s life. And come to church on Sundays with anticipation of how God is going to work in your life together with your church family. Here are just a few of the themes we will focus on in the weeks ahead: • The importance of God’s Word today • The current reality of cultural opposition • God’s power to restore broken lives • The constant need for powerful prayer. Please join me in praying that the Holy Spirit would use these next several weeks at CCCH to call us away from complacency and into action. It’s a damaged world. Let’s make a difference.

Ministry Update As reported earlier, the first $10,000 of RIDICULOUS Beyond Ourselves funds were sent to Dale Mead in Colombia. This gift is already being put to work on the foundation for a new cabin at the Christian camp. Our CCCH team leaves for Colombia on July 31, and will be working to add walls to this cabin. When finished, the cabin will increase the capacity of the camp as Dale and his team influence young people there toward a mature Christian lifestyle. A team of ten just returned from the Dominican Republic on July 21 after delivering hundreds of shoes to the children being cared for by our partners, William and Alexandria Decena. These shoes were made available by the generosity of CCCH families and are already making an impact for the children in Batey Nueve. At this writing, a team of ten high school students and four adults are serving an area in Kentucky impacted by limited opportunities. They are doing home improvement projects and caring for those who need to know the love of Christ. Their work will provide improved living conditions for several families in the Appalachians.
