HGS Fuels Up Community With Change War

Having access to nutrient rich foods isn’t only important for students, but to everyone in our community as well. HGS students will be fueling up our local food banks this holiday season with a change war. All money raised will go to local Food Banks so they can stock their shelves and help fuel up our community. The change war will start on Monday, Dec. 11 and go through Thursday, Dec. 14. The basic rules are as follows:      

Each grade level will compete against each other. Pennies added to your grade level jar are counted positively towards your grade level’s total. All other coins and bills are subtracted from your grade level’s total. The winning grade level is the grade with the highest positive total at the end of the week. Be sure to save all your pennies for your own grade level jar and save all your silver coins and dollar bills for other grade level jars. The winning grade level will be rewarded with a pizza party.

Wishing Christmas Tree for Teachers

HGS Families—It has long been a tradition that children often buy a little holiday present for their teacher. This is certainly not required or expected! However, sometimes families appreciate a little help in the gift buying department. Therefore, each year the PTO does a Teacher Gift Tree. Teachers put a few suggestions down and those interested can purchase off of this “Wish List’. For the last few years we have put the “tree” on the PTO bulletin board, just outside the office. There will be a “present” pocket with the name and room number of all the educators at HGS. In the pocket will be little cards with the name of the educator and different suggestions for some items they would enjoy. It might be pens, an ITunes gift card or even a Starbucks gift card! You or your child can look at all the cards for the person you wish to purchase for, decide what you want to get and take the card home. Have a very wonderful holiday!

Weather Watch Plan With cold weather upon us, it is important that your child come prepared for outdoor recess. Please send coats, gloves and hats to protect your child from the elements. When the wind chill is below 15 degrees Fahrenheit, students will not have recess outside.
