www.verulamschool.co.uk Email [email protected] 21st October 2013 Dear Parent/Carer Re: Year 13 Parents’ Evening Tuesday 19th November 2013 5-8pm I am writing to you to outline the arrangements for the forthcoming Year 13 Parents’ Evening at Verulam. As a part of our ongoing drive to make communication and reporting to parents more effective, we feel it is vital that students take a more central role in both the evaluation of their academic progress and in developing a plan to ensure that subject targets are met. To achieve this, all students will be expected to attend (in professional attire) and treat the parents’ evening as a formal review of their performance. If this is not possible an alternative arrangement should be agreed with the Form Tutor or Head of Year before the parents’ evening. In order for the students to prepare themselves, they will be given data on their progress and guidance for analysis. This will be recorded on a self-evaluation sheet which they should discuss with you and bring with them on the evening. It is vital that the student uses this preparation time to develop ownership in order to improve. The better prepared they are, the more they will gain from the meeting. As the evening relies on informal timekeeping we do ask that appointments take no longer than 10 minutes. If you would like an extended meeting there will be an opportunity to do so at a later date. Following the evening every student will be asked to write up a simple action plan for improvement which should be discussed with you. For students with lessons at the other consortium schools, appointments should be made with their teachers in the normal way. Beaumont’s parents’ evening is on Wednesday 20th November and Sandringham’s is on Monday 18th November 2013. Yours sincerely
