PARIS WILDCATS Parent Information 1) Parents are expected to behave properly at all times at an event. Encourage your son/daughter to do his/her best. Do not berate others or their kids or coaches running the event. You will be ejected from the event if this goes on. Root for your son/daughter and he/she will perform well. 2) Do not approach a coach at anytime during an event. If you have a quest ion or concern, please call the next school day to set up a meeting. 3) Please do not ask us why we chose one MVP over another athlete. We are evaluating during the whole event or season and are doing it based on numerous factors. We are looking for the best players with high character traits and those that make their teammates better when choosing MVP's. There are many great athletes who win MVP and there are also many great athletes who do not win MVP. Please be respectful of the winners and applaud when they do go up for their award. 4) Do not at any time go onto the field, court, or track. This is strictly for the athletes and staff running the event. If we see someone causing a problem with this they will have to leave the event. Please do not interrupt a coach during practices or games. Please a allow them to do their job without being interrupted. 5) If your son or daughter is injured at the event and he/she cannot perform) we would like him/her to stay and be a part of the event. If his/her injury is serious and a parent is present e we come and get parent or guardian and allow onto the field of play. We will also take precaution with a serious injury and may call the ambulance if something is serious. Our interest is in the safety of the athlete. 6) If you have to leave the event early or want your son/daughter to ride home with you after the event, we must have prior written permission. Your son or daughter will never be allowed to ride home with anyone other than parent or legal guardian. Any exceptions to this must be approved in the athletic office prior to the event. 7) If your student-athlete does not have a great day, blaming coaches or officials is not the answer. They are there to help them succeed, but it is also our job to be as accurate as possible. Your son/daughter is going to be coached and taught the skills to be successful. Success is measured in many ways. They will also be taught life skills and core values that we as a coaching staff would teach our own children. Bottom line is we are going to take every step necessary in placing your child in a position to have a positive, fun, athletic experience. We ask that if your son/daughter chooses to participate, that you allow us to coach them. Just as you don't want your child to listen to someone else while you’re talking or teaching them something, we, as their coaches, expect them to listen to us while they are under our care. We want and need your support as their parents! 8) Our society is a win now society! "Rome was not built in a day." It takes time to build a successful athletic program. It must start at the Jr. High level with those athletes held to same high standards as the high school athletes. 9) Playing time is not up for discussion! We want all the kids to get to play! At the Jr. High level, we will really make a great effort to make sure all kids get to play (No Promises). As the child enters high school, we must be more about putting the best players on the field or court.T he best player comment really means the whole picture; Character-Discipline -Accountability -Leadership, and Athletic Ability. 10) Enjoy having your son/daughter perform at a high level and look forward to his/her success. We work hard to provide exposure for all the athletes. Please let the athletes have their day and enjoy watching your son’s or daughter’s hard work and desire pay off.

PARIS WILDCATS Athletic Department Procedures/Policies/Expectations According to the University Interscholastic League (UIL) rules, being in athletics is a privilege, not a right. Athletes will be accountab le and held to a higher standard than those students who elect not to participate in athletics. Because participation is a privilege and not a right, Paris lSD is authorized to set higher standards for participants of extracurricular activities than it would for those who choose not to participate in these activities. Therefore, this Athletic Policies/Procedures/Expectations Handbook extends beyond the Paris lSD Student Handbook not only in types of behavior prohibited, but also in corresponding consequences and jurisdiction for imposing discipline. This Handbook will be enforced with all students participating in athletics at Paris lSD:     

Regardless of whether school is in session. Regardless of whether the offense occurs on or off school property or at a school-related event. Regardless of whether the student is directly involved with the extracurricular activity at the time the violation occurs. Regardless of whether the extracurricular activity is in-season or not. Regardless of where or when the conduct occurs.

It is possible that a student who violates the Paris lSD Student Handbook will incur consequences from both the appropriate school administrator and from his or her coach or sponsor for the same particular violation. It is also possible that a student participating in extracurricular activities could violate the Athletic Policies/Procedures/Expectations Handbook and be subject to discipline by a coach or sponsor without having violated the Paris lSD Student Handbook. When a young man or young woman signs up for athletics and becomes a member of a team, they make a commitment. The athlete and their parents should know they are obligated to follow the rules and regulations of the program. Again, athletics is a privilege. It is voluntary; therefore, they are expected to follow the rules of order. Important goals of the extracurricular program are to give students direction in developing selfdiscipline, responsibility, pride, loyalty, leadership, teamwork, respect for authority, and healthy living habits. Parents should encourage their son or daughter to achieve success in athletics. Success is defined as participating at 100% of the athlete’s ability. We can never expect an athlete to do more than he/she are capable of, however, we do want them to obtain their fullest potential. A supportive parent can instill this desire in the athlete long after his/her playing days are over. The teenage years are such an important time. This is why we feel the role of the coaching staff is such a vital part of a young athlete's life. We believe that athletics is one of the last positive forms of discipline that our young people have in our society today. A lot of times, teenagers don't really know who they are or what they want to do. For this reason, it is so important for coaches, as well as, parents to instill honesty, integrity, character, and discipline. Parents should strive to help their son or daughter to achieve their potential by seeing that the athlete is on time, attends all practices and games, follows rules and regulations and never quits.
