PARK  CITY  CROSS  COUNTRY  2016   Be  a  part  of  the  tradition!!!

Team  Meeting:  Thursday,  May  26th    2016  @  2:30PM   Treasure  Mountain  Junior  High  Room  24  (Stoughton)

***If  you  are  unsure,  or  just  want  to  find  more  information,  please  come  to  the  meeting  to  ask   questions.  Parents  are  welcome!     Q:  What  is  cross-‐country?   A.  Cross-‐country  is  a  high  school  sport  in  which  competitors  run  a  distance  of  3  miles  or  5   kilometers  over  grass,  hills,  rocks,  and  any  other  obstacle  that  may  exist  in  nature.  It  is  the  most   basic  of  all  sports.  There  is  a  starting  line  and  a  finish  line.  Between  those  lines,  each  athlete  runs  as   fast  as  humanly  possible.     Q:  Why  join  the  cross-‐country  team?   A.    You  will  be  part  of  a  tradition  of  winning  and  success.  You  will  gain  strength,  toughness,  and   speed.  You’ll  enjoy  this  team  like  no  other  team  you’ve  ever  been  a  part  of.    We  work  hard,  and  we   are  successful.  It’s  not  easy,  but  it’s  worth  it.     Q:  So  why  would  I  want  to  run  3  miles?   A:  Cross-‐country  makes  you  a  better  person.  You  learn  humility,  courage,  pain,  passion,  and   dedication.  You  build  character.  You  push  beyond  your  limits.  You  get  to  spend  quality  time  with   other  dedicated,  focused  athletes.     Q:  I  really  care  about  grades.  Will  cross-‐country  interfere  with  my  academics?   A:  Our  team  GPA  last  year  was  3.78  for  the  girls  and  3.55  for  the  boys.  We  consistently  rank  as  the   top  teams  in  the  school  academically.  If  anything,  running  XC  might  help  your  grades.  The   dedication  and  effort  necessary  to  be  successful  in  the  classroom  is  the  same  as  the  dedication  and   effort  necessary  to  be  successful  in  cross  country.     Q:  Do  I  have  to  run  10  miles  a  day?  Will  I  make  the  team?   A:  Nope.  In  fact,  a  first  year  runner  never  runs  more  than  6  miles.  You  will  only  run  2-‐3  miles  at  the   beginning.    You  will  then  progress  in  mileage  as  your  ability  permits.  Everyone  that  comes  to   practice  is  on  the  team.  If  you  show  up,  you  get  to  compete  in  all  the  races  and  practices.     GIRLS STATE CHAMPS: 2002,2003,2004,2005,2006,2008,2009,2010,2011,2012, 2013, 2014 BOYS STATE CHAMPS: 2008 STATE RUNNER-UP: 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013
