Parent and Players – I’m excited to tell you about a new format for skills sessions this year. To build the Wayzata Way we’re moving to a single night format for all teams. All boys and girls travel teams will have their skills sessions on Monday nights with sessions beginning around 5:00 and running until around 10:00 on all three rinks at PIC. Pat O’Leary has taken the lead on assembling an outstanding coaching staff that will lead the skills sessions and Pete Samargia and his staff will lead the goalie training. I believe this format will provide greater consistency, better training and be more challenging for our players, leading to better skill development. I also believe that the involvement of the high school coaching staffs and players will generate a lot of excitement. Below is a brief bio about the coaches that will be leading the Monday night skills sessions.

Overview of the new format - Overall there will be 12 skills nights running from the first week of November to early February. - Teams will be scheduled for 8 of the 12 sessions. On your off weeks you will be scheduled for dryland and practice at CMS. - Each session will be 45 minutes long. - Two skating/skills instructors and 1 goalie coach will lead each session - Each session will include 20-25 minutes of dedicated goalie training while skaters are working on skills. - The remaining time will incorporate the goalies into the skills drills while still receiving coaching from a dedicated goalie coach. This format will allow the goalie coach to address game-like scenarios. - Because the dedicated goalie coaching during these sessions and the low goalie to coach ratio, there will no longer be separate in-house goalie training (i.e. the Sunday and Monday night goalie sessions)
