Paula Seipel Scholarship by EBS Universität The story behind the Paula Seipel scholarship In January 2012, our student Paula Seipel suddenly passed away. She was in her 6th semester of the Bachelor in General Management and was just writing on her final paper when she left us unexpectedly and too soon. Paula was a talented student and a very popular member of the EBS community. She was always very cheerful, positive-minded and full of joie de vivre and was very engaged for other people and society. Her social work for a school and kindergarden in Accra/Ghana, immediately after she had finished high school, her commitment to the student´s association “Studenten Helfen” and her voluntary support of the Lebenshilfewerk demonstrated her altruistic dedication. In commemoration of Paula Seipel, EBS funded a scholarship, which was offered for the first time to the Bachelor students (full-time) of intake 2012. Who can be awarded the Paula Seipel scholarship? The scholarship will be awarded to an academically talented, young woman who has been strongly committed to social and societal engagement before entering EBS Universität für Wirtschaft und Recht The scholarship is awarded to one Bachelor student per year. What are the key elements of the Paula Seipel scholarship? EBS Universität für Wirtschaft und Recht awards one gold scholarship (75 % of the study fees) for the first academic year at EBS. The scholarship will be prolonged year by year if the student upholds her social and societal engagement and if she performs on an high academic level (GPA > 75 %). Social commitment at EBS and also her engagement in the context of Socio-Cultural-Impact projects will be taken in to consideration, as will be any other extra-curricular activities. The decision on the annual prolongation is made by the Dean of EBS Universität für Wirtschaft und Recht on the basis of the recommendation of the Dean´s Awards committee. The student is expected to present her social activities at various events at EBS as well as on the EBS homepage.

§1
General Information
(1)
These criteria constitute the basis on which EBS Universität für Wirtschaft und Recht is willing to grant the Paula Seipel scholarship.
(2)
Taking these terms and conditions into due account, EBS decides at its own discretion on the selection of students and the award of scholarships.
(3)
There is no legal claim to a decision regarding the award of a scholarship. There is no right of appeal.
§2
Scope and duration of the scholarship
(1)
The scholarship consists of reduction of the study fees by 75 % for the first academic year. The scholarship will be prolonged year by year if the student continues her social and societal engagement and if she academically performs (GPA > 75 %).
(2)
In the event of leave of absence, the decision regarding the award of the scholarship remains effective, payment will however be suspended during the leave of absence.
(3)
In case the student terminates the study agreement without important cause, or EBS Universität für Wirtschaft und Recht terminates the study agreement for important cause, all scholarship payments made until the exmatriculation based thereon are forthwith due for repayment. Should this constitute an unacceptable hardship to the student for personal or financial reasons, then EBS Universität für Wirtschaft und Recht will use equitable discretion in establishing a repayment plan for scholarship payments made which reasonable balances the personal and financial capacities of the student with the reasons leading to exmatriculation, in particular taking into account from whose sphere they originate, and specifically including a partial forfeiture for reasons of personal hardship or an instalment plan in accordance with the duration of studies completed.
§3
Criteria for the award of the Paula Seipel scholarship
(1)
The scholarship will be awarded to an academically talented, young woman who has been strongly committed to social and societal engagement before entering EBS Universität für
Wirtschaft und Recht. The scholarship is awarded to one student per year. (2)
The applicant does not receive any other scholarship towards financing the tuition fees.
(3)
The applicant is required to disclose all the correct and complete information pertinent to the scholarship decision and confirm that they have done so.
§4
Obligation to tell the truth
(1)
The applicant confirms that all information given to EBS is true, accurate and complete. She is obliged to inform EBS without delay of any changes to information supplied that might affect the applicant’s and scholarship holder's eligibility for financial support. The applicant is aware that EBS scholarship decisions are made on the basis of the information provided by the applicant and is obliged to compensate EBS for any disadvantages it may suffer as a result of incorrect or incomplete information.
(2)
In the event that the information given is not in accordance with §5 section 1, EBS has the right to withdraw the scholarship in part or in total, to claim back scholarship payments already made and, where false information has been supplied wilfully or with gross negligence, to terminate the study agreement.
§5
Termination of the scholarship
(1)
In justified cases, for instance due to personal misconduct, EBS has the right to terminate the scholarship.
(2)
In such a case, the student concerned must be heard. In the event of a breach of §5 of these scholarship award criteria, a hearing is unnecessary.
§6
Declaration of commitment I (as an applicant for a Paula Seipel scholarship) hereby confirm that I do not receive any other scholarship towards financing the tuition fees. I have read and acknowledged the criteria for the award and the prolongation of the Paula Seipel scholarship. I confirm that the information and documentation I have provided is accurate and a true representation of the facts.
